Southland have had a decent season but still find themselves second from bottom. They have won three of their eight games which has included some impressive results

Southland lost their opening two games but bounced back with three wins in a row against Manawatu at home, away to Bay of Plenty and away to Waikato.

That string of results put them on course for a playoff spot, but the last three weeks have been a humiliation to say the least. It started with a 54-14 home loss to Canterbury before losing 64-10 at home to Counties Manukau. Last week it got worse as Wellington humiliated them 75-19.

Tasman Form

Tasman came into the 2025 NPC as the favourites to win the title, but the season has not gone according to plan. They are still in the playoff spots in seventh with four wins and four defeats, and just two points off fourth.

On the opening day Tasman were well beaten by Bay of Plenty, but they ran in four successive wins thereafter against Manawatu, Northland, North Harbour and Otago.

That put them on an upward curve but since beating Otago, Tasman have lost three on the bounce.

A 29-21 loss at home to Auckland began the rut before an impressive performance saw them go down 31-25 to the then unbeaten Canterbury away. In their last game, Tasman were beaten 29-24 at home by Waikato.
