Rocket League Tips & Live Streams

6465 Showlhs N

Rocket League is a football game that involves high-powered cars and sees players trying to score goals using those cars. Originally developed and released by Psyonix in 2015, it was met with huge popularity and good reviews, with its entry into the world of eSports never far off.

The game can be played either in single-player or multiplayer modes, with the latter featuring two teams of eight players . Matches last around five minutes, with this quick game time helping to make the game so popular.

Soon after it was released, tournaments began popping up on Twitch. In the same year, Rocket League was recognised as an eSport by the Electronic Sports League (ESL).

You can watch live streams for the latest Rocket League matches and tournaments on popular streaming sites as well as bookmakers like bet365 and Picklebet. The top streaming services are Twitch and YouTube.

Rocket League eSports Structure

The Premier Rocket League eSports tournament is the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS). It was organised by Twitch initially, but is now organised by Psyonix. The competition was relatively small at the start, but it has grown over the years:

  • The first edition was held in August 2016. The prize pool stood at $50,000, which was distributed among eight teams, four from North America and Europe. iBUYPOWER from North America won the Championship after they beat FlipSide3 in the Grand Final.
  • There have been 10 seasons of the RLCS following the above, and they are usually split into two events played across the spring and fall seasons. The prize pool currently stands at an impressive $2 million.
  • Season 3 saw the RLCS expand to 10 teams, with representation from Oceania too.
  • The 2019 season saw Psyonix partner with ELEAGUE, with this expanding the teams to 12 with South America represented too.

Psyonix was acquired by Epic Games in 2020, with the 2021 season seeing a number of changes. Representatives from the Middle East and North Africa, Asia-Pacific South and Sub-Saharan Africa were included. A winter split for the season was also included alongside Fall and Spring.

Best Rocket League Teams

A number of teams have won the RLCS Finals since its introduction in 2016, though no one has managed to win it more than once. The full list of winners is as follows:

  • iBUYPOWER Cosmic won the first edition in Spring 2016, back when it was just between the European and North American regions
  • Flipside Tactics in Fall 2016
  • Northern Gaming in Spring 2017
  • Gale Force eSports in Fall 2017
  • Dignitas in Spring 2018
  • Cloud9 in Fall 2018
  • Renault Vitality in Spring 2019
  • NRG Esports in Fall 2019
  • Team BDS won the Finals in the 2021-22 season

The 2021-22 edition was the first to introduce the seasonal Major system. These were the respective winners:

  • Team BDS won the Spring Major
  • G2 Esports won the Fall Major
  • Moist Esports won the Winter Major
