Panathinaikos Form & Team News

With three consecutive wins against three very strong opponents, Panathinaikos have firmly entered the battle for the top of the EuroLeague standings.

After major victories over reigning champions Fenerbahce and league leaders Hapoel Tel Aviv, they also defeated Zalgiris in Kaunas in the previous round.

During that game, coach Atamans team faced a very aggressive opponent and struggled in the first half, allowing 50 points and going into halftime down by 10.

Everything changed after the break, as Panathinaikos showed their best version. They erased the deficit in the third quarter and delivered the decisive blow in the final 10 minutes to secure their 12th win of the season.

Panathinaikos shot an outstanding 59 percent from three-point range (13/22). The top scorers were Cedi Osman with 22 points on an almost perfect 8/9 shooting performance, and Kendrick Nunn with 21 points.

T.J. Shorts also had a strong showing with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Omer Yurtseven scored 14 points in just 12 minutes on the floor.

Olympiacos Form & Team News

Ten wins after 17 games certainly do not meet Olympiacos ambitions in the EuroLeague, but things have started to improve in recent weeks.

After a routine win over ASVEL, Olympiacos followed up with an important road victory in Bologna last week, winning 97:94.

It was a must-win game considering their position in the standings, and as expected, the home team put up strong resistance and stayed competitive until the final seconds.

Olympiacos took control early in the second quarter and never gave up the lead, building a maximum advantage of 20 points late in the third period. Virtus gradually reduced the deficit, leading to a tense finish in which the home team had several chances to force overtime.

In the end, Derrick Alston Jr missed the potential game-tying three-pointer, bringing great relief to head coach Bartzokas, who has been under heavy pressure due to recent poor results.

Five Olympiacos players carried most of the offensive load. Tyler Dorsey led the way with 23 points, followed closely by Evan Fournier with 21. Sasha Vezenkov added 16 points.

Bench players Alec Peters and Nikola Milutinov each scored 13 points, with the Serbian center also recording 9 rebounds and 5 assists for a game-high performance index rating of 24.

Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the Greek giants this season. In the first one, Olympiacos claimed a 90:86 home win in the domestic league, led by Sasha Vezenkovs 22 points.

Verdict

Both teams are in good form, which promises a high-quality and exciting derby.

Panathinaikos have looked excellent offensively in recent weeks, but on Friday they will not only face a strong opponent, but also history, having lost their last five EuroLeague home games against Olympiacos.

With both rosters filled with elite offensive talent, expectations are high that both teams will deliver their best basketball in what should be a fantastic atmosphere.
