As the Golden State Warriors gear up to host the Dallas Mavericks, both teams are looking to improve on their mixed season performances. The Warriors have shown a recent resurgence with two consecutive wins, thanks largely to Stephen Curry's exceptional play and support from teammates. However, team chemistry issues are evident. For the Mavericks, Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis have been pivotal in recent victories, but crucial lineup uncertainties remain. This matchup promises to be a test of form and strategy, with the Warriors slightly favored to capitalize on their home advantage.

Dallas Mavericks at Golden State Warriors Preview

Golden State Warriors will host the Dallas Mavericks in a matchup between two teams that are currently recording far worse results than expected.

Will the Warriors claim their third consecutive win, or will the Mavs, after beating the Denver Nuggets, take down another conference rival?

Golden State Warriors Form & Team News

It may not have been realistic to expect the Golden State Warriors, with this roster and in such strong competition, to fight for the very top of the Western Conference, but a current record of 15 wins and 15 losses certainly does not satisfy the ambitions of this franchise.

It would not be surprising if the Warriors make a move before the trade deadline and potentially bring in a superstar to serve as a true partner for Stephen Curry. Until then, however, they must make do with what they have.

The situation has improved slightly with two consecutive wins over solid teams in the Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic. While the game against the Suns was extremely tight and uncertain until the very end, the Warriors delivered one of their better performances of the season against the Magic, cruising to a convincing 120-97 victory.

Stephen Curry was once again the team’s leading scorer with 26 points and 6 assists, but unlike in some recent games, he received strong support from his teammates. Jimmy Butler scored 21 points, Moses Moody added 20, while Brandin Podziemski came off the bench with 16 points and 5 assists.

Despite the win, the game was also marked by a heated argument between Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr during the second half, which ended with Green heading to the locker room on his own initiative.

Both later attempted to downplay the incident during the postgame press conference, but it remains to be seen whether this episode will have any impact on team chemistry, which has not been at an optimal level this season.

Dallas Mavericks Form & Team News

The Dallas Mavericks are still going through a turbulent period in the post - Luka Dončić era. Things have improved slightly with the return of several players, most notably Anthony Davis.

However, there is still no clear answer to the key question: will the Mavericks trade their best player and begin a full rebuild around Cooper Flagg, or will they push for a playoff spot? Speculation on this topic seems to change from week to week.

At the moment, the Mavs sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 12–19 record. Team confidence has been modestly boosted by recent wins over the Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets.

In the win over the Nuggets two nights ago, rookie sensation Cooper Flagg delivered a brilliant performance. The Mavericks’ rookie and future star of the league played the best game of his young NBA career.

He finished just one step shy of a triple-double, recording 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists while shooting an excellent 14-of-21 from the field. Flagg also highlighted the game with several spectacular plays and remarkable composure in key moments.

That victory over such a high-quality opponent would not have been possible without a huge contribution from Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor. The former NBA champion with the Lakers finished the game with 31 points and 9 rebounds, while also doing an impressive job defensively against the league’s best player, Nikola Jokić.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between the Warriors and Mavericks this season. Last season, both teams recorded two wins each, with the home team emerging victorious in all four games.

Verdict

It appears that the Warriors have found some momentum, and this game comes at a favorable time for them.

The question is what kind of lineup the Mavericks will be able to field, as the availability of P.J. Washington, Klay Thompson, and Max Christie is uncertain, while Dereck Lively and Dante Exum are out for the season.

Given that the Warriors have the personnel to limit the impact of the Davis–Flagg duo, I expect the home team to deliver a strong performance and secure a relatively routine victory.
