The $3 million classic has long been regarded as a stallion-making race, with champions such as Redoute's Choice, Lonhro, Manikato, Tulloch and The Autumn Sun among its past winners. More recently, Autumn Boy claimed the 2025 edition after Private Life, Griff, Golden Mile and Anamoe had taken out the previous four runnings.

After The Caulfield Guineas
The Caulfield Guineas has been one of Australia's great three-year-old classics for more than 140 years, regularly identifying future Group 1 champions and some of the country's most influential breeding prospects.
First run in 1881, when Wheatear claimed the inaugural edition, the 1600m contest has remained a central feature of the Melbourne spring. It was originally classified as a Principal Race before receiving Group 1 status in 1979, with its reputation as a stallion-making race strengthened by generations of outstanding winners.
The most recent editions have continued that tradition, with Autumn Boy defeating Planet Red and Observer in 2025. The Chris Waller-trained colt followed in the footsteps of his sire, The Autumn Sun, who won the race in 2018, while Damian Lane completed consecutive winning rides after partnering Private Life to victory over Feroce and Evaporate in 2024.
Griff provided Ciaron Maher and David Eustace with the 2023 edition, defeating Veight and Steparty, while Golden Mile edged out Elliptical and Osipenko in 2022. Anamoe had claimed the previous running for James Cummings and Damien Oliver, beating Captivant and Artorius before developing into one of the outstanding weight-for-age performers of his generation.
The Guineas' wider honour roll features names synonymous with Australian racing, including Ajax, Tulloch, Vain, Surround, Luskin Star, Manikato, Redoute's Choice, Lonhro, Weekend Hussler and All Too Hard. Redoute's Choice famously defeated Testa Rossa in the 1999 edition, while Lonhro's victory two years later added another future champion stallion to the race's history.
The race has also produced several memorable upsets, including Mighty Boss winning at $101 in 2017 and Private Life defeating the heavily supported Broadsiding in 2024. Those results underline the challenges of the Caulfield mile, where barrier draws, racing patterns and the ability to handle the pressure of a Group 1 contest can all prove decisive.
Saturday's 2026 edition offers another generation of three-year-olds the opportunity to join that distinguished list, with Golden Rose winner Warwoven heading to Caulfield as a leading contender for the $3 million feature.
