In this pivotal NBL25 matchup, both Brisbane Bullets and New Zealand Breakers are striving for a win as their seasons are on the brink. The Breakers, despite being the underdogs, are expected to cover a 5.5-point spread. Playing a significant role will be Tacko Fall, with his recent performances, and Matt Mooney, who step up in the absence of key players. Brisbane has struggled in their last matches, heavily relying on Casey Prather for scoring, making tactical adjustments crucial to their success.

Petteri Koponen has worked his magic and found the formula to get the most out of Tacko Fall and Matt Mooney in the absence of Parker Jackson-Cartwright controlling the paint and limiting second chance points to their opponents, which is expected with a man of Fall’s stature in the area.

Brisbane have struggled with just that in their past three losses and have relied heavily on the scoring power of Casey Preather to get them wins.

Expect the Breakers to attack early with Fall as New Zealand’s starting guard Mooney feeding his big man the rock. Don’t be surprised if the Breakers steal this game on the road.

  • New Zealand have won 7 of their past 8 matches in Brisbane.
  • Brisbane have been out scored in the paint 172-106 in their past 3 matches.
  • Tacko Fall has 49 points and 21 rebounds in his past 2 matches.
  • Matt Mooney has 16 assists in his past 2 games.

Brisbane Bullets Form & Team News

The holiday season has not been kind to Brisbane who have lost three games in a row since Christmas, however their competition has been tough in the Hawks, JackJumpers and Sydney.

Casey Prather has become one of the top players in the league, averaging 27 points per game in his past 10 matches and has been the highlight of the Brisbane offence, showcasing his consistency.

However, the Bullets have been leaning on Prather and Keandre Cook too much and have gone away from their methods down low, running the ball through Tyrell Harrison and Josh Bannan, where they can also find success.

The Bullets have been out-scored in the paint 172-106 in their three losses and need to find a way to be less one-dimensional in attack, while also being better inside the key on defence and shutting out their opponents.

New Zealand Breakers Form & Team News

The Breakers ended their 8-game losing streak with a win over Cairns on New Year’s eve and also put in a strong performance against Perth, despite the game getting away from them late in their 96-86 loss to Perth on Sunday.

Since the suspension of Parker Jackson-Cartwright we have seen the rise of Tacko Fall and Matt Mooney, who have taken the challenge of running the Breakers team with their main man on the sideline.

Coach Petteri Koponen has found the key that has unlocked the beast that is Fall, who has 49 points and 21 rebounds in his past two games, while Matt Mooney has taken control of the offence with 51 points and 16 assists in his past two.

The importance of Mooney is enormous now and it was clear that once he fouled out with 4:30 left in the match against Perth, the Breakers chances of victory diminished.
