Washington Wizards @ Los Angeles Clippers Tips

The in-form Washington Wizards take on LA Clippers on Wednesday in a cross-conference NBA regular season game. While the Clippers are currently second in the Western Conference, and the Wizards third from bottom of the Easton Conference, it is the struggling team that is enjoying a five match winning streak, while the title chasing side has lost two of their last three games.

This will be the first time these two teams have faced each other since December 2019 when they played twice consecutively, with the Clippers winning both games. Had these teams met earlier in the season, I would’ve expected a similar outcome to occur.

However, the Wizards’ All-Star duo of Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook have been in outstanding form of late, and their heroics have galvanized the entire Washington team. I’m backing Washington to continue their winning run with a 10-point or less victory over Los Angeles on Wednesday, and I’m expecting a combined points total for the game of 235 or less.

  • Clippers 2nd in Western Conference
  • Clippers have won 22 games and lost 10
  • Wizards 13th in Western Conference
  • Wizards have won 11 games and lost 17

Head to Head

The Washington Wizards and the LA Clippers have played each other 122 times, with the Wizards leading their head-to-head by 76 wins to 46. In their last six meetings, the Clippers have won four times while the Wizards have been victorious only twice. These two teams last played each other in December 2019, and the LA Clippers won both games decisively.

Washington Wizards Form

The Wizards remain third from bottom of the Eastern Conference, despite their recent run of form. Overall, Washington have won 11 games and lost 17 for a winning average of .323. Although the season still has a long way to go, right now a playoff spot would seem out of their reach, but should Washington continue to win games, anything is possible.

The Wizards are enjoying by far and away their best run of form of the season, and Tuesday’s dramatic overtime win over the defending NBA champs the LA Lakers was their fifth consecutive. The combination of veteran All-Star players Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook both hitting their best form has been the catalyst for Washington’s revival, with Beal consistently storing in excess of 30 points during this run, while Westbrook has been averaging double figures for rebounds and assists.

LA Clippers Form

The LA Clippers are currently second in the NBA Western Conference, with 22 wins and 10 defeats for a .688 when average. For a while, the Clippers and Lakers were keeping pace with the runaway Western Conference leaders the Utah Jazz, but both of the Los Angeles teams have suffered from a lack of consistency recently.

The Clippers have lost two of their last three games, and on Monday went down against the Brooklyn Nets 112-108. The Clippers current lack of consistency can be blamed on its chief point scorers. Nobody in the team has consistently broken the 30 point barrier this season, and top scorers Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are both averaging in the mid-20s.

Verdict

I’m backing the Washington Wizards to continue their amazing run of form, and for Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook to continue their match-winning double act. Right now only the Brooklyn Nets are enjoying a longer winning run than Washington, who will equal Brooklyn’s six-match streak should they win on Wednesday.

Washington will win this game by 10 points or less, with a combined points total for the match of less than 235.
