The 2020 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place on Saturday, July 4 in the United States with Joey Chestnut favourite to win the annual event for a 13th time.

This year's edition of the world famous eating contest will take place indoors for the first time due to coronavirus restrictions, but the likely winner is a familiar face.

Chestnut has won the title for all but one year since 2007 with Matt Sloanie the only eater to defeat him in the 10-minute hot dog eating challenge when triumphant in 2015.

The American champion hot dog eater is targetting a new world record as he bids to improve on the 74 he managed to eat in 10 minutes when winning the title in 2018.

Chestnut, who won with a total of 71 last year, is the 1.06 favourite to continue his dominance by winning again against what is a reduced field in 2020 due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

Stonie, the only man to defeat Chestnut in the eating contest, is one of three contestants unable to compete due to the restrictions put in place in New York.

The most likely rival to Chestnut is Darren Breedon, who is 11.00 with bet365 to be crowned champion having sunk 50 hot dogs last year. The field against the pair is 12.00 with Nick Wehry the only other contestant with odds at 34.00.

Miki Sudo, who has won the last six women’s competitions, is favourite to take the women's title once again.
