The biggest basketball headline in recent days has been the resignation and departure of Zeljko Obradovic after four and a half years at Partizan.
Legendary coach decided to leave his beloved club after admitting he no longer had the energy or ideas to reach his players or improve the team’s level of play. His exit hit Partizan fans hard, and it’s difficult to predict what the atmosphere will be like in Belgrade Arena.
A new head coach is nowhere in sight, so the team will be led by Mirko Ocokoljic, who has spent the last ten years exclusively as an assistant coach.
The final straw that led to Obradovic’s departure was the heavy 91-69 defeat in Athens against Panathinaikos, which dropped Partizan to 18th place in the EuroLeague.
Partizan played a decent first half, but completely collapsed in the second. They went eight minutes without scoring and allowed an incredible 25-0 run.
There were almost no bright spots, and the only player worth mentioning was Sterling Brown, who finished with 16 points.
