The Hawks are in a world of trouble and need something dramatic to change their fortunes in NBL26.

Leading by 5 heading into the rooms at half time against Adelaide on Wednesday, the Hawks were looking hungry, but a third quarter collapse losing the term 27-15 saw them chasing their tails once again eventually going down 97-85 to the 36ers.

Q.J Peterson looked sharp, especially in the first half, dropping 19 points in the match, while Tyler Harvey had his first 20+ point game in six matches, however, offence isn’t where the problem lies for the Hawks.

The Illawarra defence is non-existent, the fact that they were leading at halftime against the 36ers had more to do with Bryce Cotton shooting at 30FG% before the break, which changed dramatically in the second half. The Hawks give up 96.6 points per game, the most in the NBL are also the second-worst team with an average of 42.8 opposition rebounds per match.

Melbourne have had a week off since getting up 99-93 against the Brisbane Bullets where Milton Doyle scored 28 points, a career-high in United colours. The victory against Brisbane certainly wasn’t polished, giving up more points than they would have liked, however they steady the ship with a second consecutive win after dropping their first two matches of the season.

United have been relentless this season, ranked second in the NBL in both points scored (96.7/G) and points conceded (84.5/G) and are a top four team in all key statistics.
