The Thunder are eager to end their losing streak against the Spurs, having lost three times to them earlier in the season. Despite some recent struggles, both teams are performing well in the Western Conference. Oklahoma hopes to leverage its strong form with key players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, while San Antonio aims to capitalize on the promising performances of emerging stars like Stephon Castle. Oklahoma City Thunder Form & Team News

We are approaching the halfway point of the NBA regular season, and it can be said that the Thunder are progressing well toward defending their title. They currently sit at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 33 wins and 7 losses.

There is little to criticize in their season so far, except for the three losses against the San Antonio Spurs, one of which came in the Cup semifinals.

Interestingly, all three defeats happened within a span of just 10 days, so this game will show whether that was simply a poor stretch of form or if the Spurs are a matchup that does not suit the Thunder.

The Thunder have not started the new year in ideal form either. They suffered several unexpected losses, including a shocking home defeat against the Charlotte Hornets by nearly 30 points.

That loss was followed by two narrow wins over the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies, as well as a recent home victory against the Miami Heat, 124:112.

After missing one game due to an ankle injury, the reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander returned to the court and led his team to victory with 29 points and 8 assists.

He received strong support from Jalen Williams with 18 points, while Chet Holmgren and Ajay Mitchell added 16 points each.

San Antonio Spurs Form & Team News

Faster than almost anyone expected, the San Antonio Spurs have become a serious threat and a contender for the top positions in the Western Conference.

This very young team, still lacking serious playoff experience, currently sits in second place in the conference with a record of 27 wins and 12 losses.

This record is even more impressive considering that Victor Wembanyama has missed a significant number of games, and when he does play, it is usually on a limited minutes restriction of around 25 minutes per game.

Despite that, the Spurs continue to play highly efficient and entertaining basketball. Players such as Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell have made major strides in their careers, while Luke Kornet has been a valuable addition with his presence in the paint.

As expected, the Spurs have dipped slightly in form in recent weeks, losing three of their last five games, but there is little doubt they will bounce back quickly.

In their most recent game, they suffered a narrow road loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, 104:103. They were hurt by a very poor fourth quarter, which they lost 33:18, yet they still had three shots to win the game, none of which went in.

Victor Wembanyama was the leading scorer with 29 points, but this time he did not receive enough support from his teammates, who failed to deliver strong performances.

Head to Head

After this matchup, the Thunder and Spurs will meet once again at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, with that game scheduled for February 5.

Verdict

I believe there is a strong desire for revenge within the Oklahoma City Thunder after suffering three losses to the Spurs this season, two of which were fairly convincing.

Neither team has been playing its best basketball lately, so this matchup will likely be decided by defensive intensity and smart decision-making on offense.

The Spurs have averaged just 105 points over their last five games, well below their season average, so I expect them to struggle to find easy scoring opportunities against the reigning champions.
