It is clear that this Warriors roster does not have championship-level potential, and it is a big question whether they can even secure a direct playoff spot.

The front office has made it clear that they want to build a better team around Steph Curry and give the greatest player in franchise history a chance to chase one more championship ring. It remains to be seen whether they can attract another superstar to San Francisco before the trade deadline.

For now, the Warriors are having an average season. At the halfway point, they hold a 21:19 record, which is currently enough for only eighth place in the Western Conference.

Their form has been very inconsistent, and in their most recent game they suffered a home loss to the Atlanta Hawks by as many as 13 points, despite playing at full strength.

Once again, the Warriors defensive problems were exposed, an issue they have struggled with all season and that every quality opponent knows how to exploit.

Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler once again delivered strong statistical performances, combining for 61 points and 11 assists, but that was more or less all the home team got offensively.

The rest of the roster scored just 50 points, with DeAnthony Melton being the only other player in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

The Trail Blazers are in a transitional phase, trying to build a team that could become a significant factor in the Western Conference in the future. So far, they are having a very respectable season and are on track to be one of the four teams fighting for a play-in spot.

At the moment, they sit ninth in the conference with a 19:21 record and hold a three-game advantage over the first team below the line.

After five straight wins, including two consecutive victories over the Houston Rockets, the Blazers suffered a home loss in their previous game against the New York Knicks, 123:114.

The Trail Blazers held their own for more than 40 minutes against a much stronger opponent, but ultimately lacked the strength to complete a full comeback.

Their fans will also remember this game for a positive reason, as former NBA champion Jrue Holiday returned to the court after two months out with injury.

The experienced veteran scored 8 points and handed out 4 assists in 16 minutes. Deni Avdija was once again the leading scorer with 25 points, supported by Shaedon Sharpe with 23 points and Caleb Love with 21 points.

However, the Trail Blazers will face a major challenge at the Chase Center, as they will be without their best player this season, Deni Avdija, as well as Scoot Henderson and Jerami Grant, who are already sidelined with injuries.

In the first meeting between these teams this season, the Portland Trail Blazers claimed a home win, 136:131. Stephen Curry was the standout performer with 48 points, including 12 three-pointers.

The Warriors have not inspired much confidence this season, but this is a game they simply cannot afford to lose, especially with the visitors missing Avdija and several other key players.

Against the Hawks, the Warriors struggled badly from beyond the three-point line, and I expect them to make up for that in this matchup against an opponent whose defense is not its strongest attribute.
