Turkey Form & Team News

Even before the tournament, many saw Turkey as a dark horse for a medal, but probably not even their most optimistic fans expected them to look this good.

In the semifinal, Turkey gave Greece a basketball lesson and showed how to stop a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo at the FIBA level.

They also proved that they do not need a scoring explosion from team star Alperen Sengun to beat a top opponent, since they have many other options ready to step up.

This time it was power forward Ercan Osmani who played the game of his life.

The Anadolu Efes player destroyed Greece’s defensive schemes in the first half with 5 three-pointers, taking advantage of all the space created by the brilliance of Houston Rockets center Sengun.

Osmani finished with 28 points, while Cedi Osman also had a great game with 17 points despite a recent injury.

Sengun recorded 15 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists, while Shane Larkin added 14 points.

Germany Form & Team News

Germany fully lived up to their role as heavy favorites in the semifinal against Finland, cruising to a 98:86 victory and reaching the final where they will try to unite the world and European titles.

After a slow start and being down by 7 points, midway through the first quarter Germany took the lead and never gave it back.

The margin grew to a maximum of plus 18 in the third quarter.

The star of the game was Dennis Schroder, who already had double-digit assists by halftime, and then exploded with scoring in the second half.

He finished with a game-high 26 points and 12 assists, while Franz Wagner followed with 22 points.
Tristan da Silva, Isaac Bonga, and Daniel Theis also scored in double figures.

On Sunday, Germany will fight for their second EuroBasket gold medal after the one they won back in 1993.

Head to head

The last official meeting between these two teams was 10 years ago at EuroBasket 2015, when Turkey won 80:75. Cedi Osman on one side and Dennis Schroder, Maodo Lo, and Johannes Voigtmann on the other were all participants in that game.

Verdict

Whoever wins on Sunday will fully deserve it, as these two teams have shown the most throughout the tournament.

Turkey had slightly tougher tests on their way to the final, beating Latvia, Serbia, and Greece, which could be useful preparation for the challenge ahead.

Both teams have been shooting the three extremely well all tournament, and it could very well be the deciding factor in this game.

I expect a great match with a higher number of points, where small details and the individual inspiration of key players will ultimately tip the balance.
