Last season, which ended with a second-round playoff exit, was solid but still below expectations for a franchise as ambitious as the Golden State Warriors.

With Stephen Curry entering the twilight years of his playing career, the Warriors are determined to remain competitive and make another push for the championship.

To do so, the front office strengthened the frontcourt by bringing in Al Horford, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they went after another superstar mid-season should the opportunity arise.

In their season opener, the Warriors comfortably defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 119:99 at Crypto.com Arena, though the Lakers were missing LeBron James.

The Warriors survived a monster performance from Luka Doncic (42 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists) thanks to excellent team play, led by Jimmy Butler with 31 points. Stephen Curry added 23 points, albeit with below-average shooting percentages, while Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga each scored 17.

Kuminga’s continued development might be one of the key factors for the Warriors’ success this season. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain consistency like he showed in this first game.

The Denver Nuggets enter the new season with high ambitions - and rightfully so, as the 2023 NBA champions have every reason to aim high again.

The often-criticized front office made several widely praised offseason moves. Michael Porter Jr. left for the Brooklyn Nets, while Cameron Johnson, an elite shooter, came in the opposite direction.

Free-agent additions include Tim Hardaway Jr., expected to provide reliable perimeter shooting, Jonas Valanciunas, who will give Nikola Jokic much-needed rest during the regular season, and perhaps the biggest signing - Bruce Brown, returning to the team with which he won the championship ring.

At first glance, the Nuggets now have the deepest roster of the Jokic era, which should allow them to stay fresh for the postseason and offer more options on both ends of the floor in crucial games.

Another important development came a few days ago - the team secured a contract extension with Christian Braun, who has made major progress over the past seasons and is now an essential part of the starting five.

This will be the first of four regular-season matchups between the Warriors and the Nuggets this year. It’s quite possible that these two teams could also meet again in the playoffs.

Both teams will look to play at a faster tempo this season, following the modern basketball trend. The Nuggets, led by the brilliant Nikola Jokic, might push the pace even more, as they’re surrounded by strong shooters this year.

Games between these two teams in recent seasons have usually been high-scoring and entertaining. The line for total points is set quite high, but with both teams in rhythm and shooting well, this matchup could easily turn into another offensive showcase.
