At the moment, Crvena Zvezda might be the team in the best form in the entire Euroleague. After an away win in Istanbul against Fenerbahce, they followed up with two impressive home victories last week against Zalgiris and Real Madrid.

The win over Real Madrid was particularly impressive - after six consecutive losses against them, Zvezda won convincingly 90:75.

The beginning of the game was not promising, as Zvezda started poorly and without focus, but as time went on, they became more confident, relaxed, and precise in their offensive execution.

Often criticized point guard Cody Miller-McIntyre shined, scoring 14 points in the first quarter alone and keeping Zvezda in the game almost by himself. Later, the whole team joined in, with Jordan Nwora scoring 18 points, Chima Moneke adding 15, Semi Ojeleye contributing 13, and Nikola Kalinic chipping in 10 points.

Coach Obradovic can be especially pleased with Ojeleye’s performance, as he finally looked comfortable after a slow start to the season. In addition to his scoring, he made a huge defensive impact, effectively neutralizing Edy Tavares, who was barely noticeable throughout the match.

Baskonia Form & Team News

Baskonia is enduring the worst start to a Euroleague season in its history, and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel yet. They currently sit at the very bottom of the standings with five straight losses.

They couldn’t end the losing streak in their last game against Partizan, despite being level with two and a half minutes remaining. In the end, Partizan’s deeper rotation and more in-form players made the difference, and Baskonia lost 79:91.

On top of that, they’re facing major roster issues. Both Trent Forrest and Marcus Howard are sidelined with injuries for several weeks, and to make things worse, news broke yesterday that Luka Samanic, the starting center, suddenly left the club to return to his home country.

This will further weaken an already thin rotation, and coach Paolo Galbiati has plenty of reasons for concern. Their only small positive came from a narrow domestic league win away to Granada over the weekend, but that’s far from enough for a club with such a rich history and Euroleague ambitions.

Last season, Crvena Zvezda defeated Baskonia in both meetings. In Spain, the result was 75:73, while in Belgrade, Zvezda won more comfortably 78:71.

After a poor start to the season with two losses and several key injuries, things have turned around completely for Crvena Zvezda in just a few weeks. Their form and confidence are rising rapidly, and Belgrade has once again become one of the toughest places to play in Europe.

Given Baskonia’s struggles and limited roster, this is a golden opportunity for Zvezda to extend their winning streak. With strong home support, a routine home victory should not be in doubt.
