Barcelona enter the Round 23 EuroLeague clash against Dubai from 6th place in the standings with a 14-8 record.
Last week, Blaugrana suffered a convincing road loss in Madrid against their biggest rival, falling 80-61. It was by far their worst performance since Xavi Pascual returned to the bench two months ago.
From the opening tip, Barca failed to respond to the aggressive defense of Real Madrid, who completely shut down the organization of Barcelona playmakers. Real Madrid approached this game with a very different level of energy compared to the El Clasico in the domestic league, and it paid off.
Throughout the entire game, the home team maintained a consistent level of intensity and quality, while Barcelona simply could not adjust or find a way to match the hosts.
The visitors finished the game with only 9 assists, as many as 15 turnovers, and a terrible three-point shooting performance at 4/18.
Dario Brizuela, Nico Laprovittola, and Toko Shengelia were the only Barcelona players to score in double figures, while Kevin Punter had a game to forget with just 3 points and no field goals made.

Dubai have lost 3 of their last 4 EuroLeague games and have slipped to 13th place in the standings with a 10-12 record. Last week, they suffered one of their rare home defeats, as Virtus Bologna came out on top with an 80-72 win.
Dubai delivered an uncharacteristically poor offensive performance at the Coca Cola Arena, partly due to their own mistakes but also because of the excellent defense played by the visitors, who prevented Dubai from developing their usual game.
Dubai finished the game with a dreadful 39 percent shooting from the field and were outrebounded by 10, a segment where Virtus Bologna created their biggest advantage.
The three Dubai starters who usually carry the team this season, McKinley Wright, Mfiondu Kabengele, and Filip Petrusev, all finished with single-digit scoring, which was the main reason for the defeat.
Aleksa Avramovic played an excellent game off the bench with 17 points and provided much-needed energy in an attempt to spark a comeback, but he simply did not get enough support in the decisive moments.
Head to Head
Dubai defeated Barcelona in the first head-to-head meeting of the season, played in Round 5 of the EuroLeague, by a score of 83-78. Filip Petrusev and Dwayne Bacon combined for 43 points and 14 rebounds.
Verdict
Xavi Pascual had plenty to criticize after the disastrous El Clasico performance, so I expect a strong response from his players against Dubai.
Dubai cannot play defense anywhere near the level of Real Madrid, which should allow Barcelona to find their offensive rhythm much more easily and finish far more possessions at the rim.
Barcelona should control this game from start to finish.
