So Suave, the younger brother of the late Verry Elleegant, continued his gradual rise with a win at Cranbourne on Friday night, taking another step in the right direction.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old is a full brother to the 11-time Group 1 winner and 2021 Melbourne Cup heroine, being by Zed out of Opulence, with the family already proven at the elite staying level, and he was purchased for $260,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
At just his 11th start, So Suave brought up his second win over 2025m in Benchmark 62 company, and while the result was encouraging, he still did plenty wrong before proving too strong late.
That profile closely mirrors Verry Elleegant, who was famously quirky early in her career, racing keenly and proving difficult before developing into a champion of the turf.
While he has a long way to go to match the deeds of his sister, who passed away in 2024, this was another sign that So Suave is beginning to put it together.
