Spelled after becoming just the 13th horse in history to complete the prestigious Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup double in 2025, Half Yours (barrier 7) resumed in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 18.

While 1400m proved too sharp for the five-year-old in that return, his work through the line was encouraging, and although well held in fourth when contesting the Hollindale Stakes second-up, the 1800m effort still suggested there is improvement to come.

Half Yours shapes as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Doomben Cup.

Birdman (barrier 5) has been racing consistently, recording back-to-back Group 2 victories in Melbourne before finishing fifth in the Australian Cup, and following a freshen-up, the gelding returned with a runner-up finish in the Hollindale Stakes.

He is joined among the leading chances by Pride Of Jenni (barrier 4), who produced another trademark front-running display when successful in the Hollindale Stakes, while her most recent Group 1 attempt over this distance resulted in a narrow Australian Cup defeat on March 28.

The exciting mare is chasing a fifth Group 1 victory in the 2026 Doomben Cup, with one of her previous elite-level wins coming over this distance.

She's A Hustler (barrier 3) caught the eye first-up when fourth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes before producing another solid effort when third in the Hollindale Stakes, and the rise to 2000m should suit the mare third-up.

Another key contender is Vauban (barrier 6), who has been freshened-up since finishing third in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes, while the eight-year-old was a first-up winner over this distance on March 14.

Asterix (barrier 2) faces a significant rise in class, although the Chris Waller-trained galloper is in excellent touch, winning three of his past four starts, including both runs this campaign, most recently carrying 61kg to victory in the Gosford Gold Cup.
