Partizan Form & Team News

Partizan finally ended their nightmare run of seven consecutive Euroleague losses on Tuesday in Munich. The Black and Whites defeated Bayern in a low scoring and not very attractive game, winning 67:63.

It was a clash between two teams from the bottom of the table, both dealing with the absence of several key players. In the end, Partizan showed more composure in crunch time and deservedly took the win.

Partizan were without their leading scorer Duane Washington, as well as captain Vanja Marinkovic, Jabari Parker, Shake Milton, and Carlik Jones.

Without so many offensive options, it was unrealistic to expect the game to be won through scoring, but the defense stepped up and proved to be the decisive factor.

They allowed Bayern to shoot just 41 percent from the field, conceded only four free throw attempts, and completely dominated the rebounding battle, preventing second chance points.

Cam Payne was the standout performer for Partizan with 16 points, four assists, and four rebounds, while center Tonye Jekiri did an excellent job inside, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.

Hapoel Tel Aviv Form & Team News

It is clear that Hapoel Tel Aviv’s form has dipped compared to the first part of the season, but the Israeli side is still managing to win on pure individual quality and remain at the top of the Euroleague standings.

That was also the case in their home game against Anadolu Efes, where Hapoel struggled for three quarters and failed to find their usual rhythm.

Anadolu Efes even built a 10 point lead early in the second half, but the hosts responded with pure hustle, clawed their way back, and eventually turned the game in their favor.

The deciding role belonged to backup point guard Chris Jones, who scored crucial baskets in the final 80 seconds.

With 1:17 remaining and the score tied, he hit a two pointer to give his team the lead, then drilled a three pointer with 30 seconds left to extinguish any hope for the visitors. He later sealed the win from the free throw line.

Jones finished as Hapoel’s top scorer with 16 points, followed by Ish Wainright with 13 and Elijah Bryant with 12.

Head to Head

The two teams met earlier this season in Round 7 of the Euroleague, when Hapoel Tel Aviv secured a 97:84 victory. Collin Malcolm starred with 17 points and just one missed shot from the field.

Verdict

Partizan have finally stopped their losing streak, but major issues remain, especially on the offensive end where they struggle badly and often rely on pure improvisation.

It will be extremely difficult for them to generate good shooting opportunities against a team that plays very physical basketball and has recently imposed itself with tough defense that has broken down its opponents.
