The new 6th round of the Euroleague will open with a clash between two European basketball giants, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Real Madrid.

The Pride of Israel is having another very poor start to the Euroleague season. After five games, they sit in the second-to-last position on the table with just one win and four losses.

Last week, in a double-round schedule, they suffered two defeats. The one against Barcelona was a disaster, but the loss to Olympiacos will likely haunt them for a long time.

It was almost unbelievable how Maccabi managed to throw away a sure victory in that match. With less than four minutes remaining, they held a 12-point lead (93:81) after Jeffrey Dowtin Jr. made his sixth three-pointer of the game.

However, they scored only one more point until the final buzzer, with Lonnie Walker turning into the tragic figure after making a selfish play in the final possession, trying to be the hero.

That collapse overshadowed an excellent performance by Dowtin Jr., who scored 24 points with an impressive 6/7 from beyond the arc.

We will see what kind of psychological impact that painful loss has left on the team. Among the bad news, there is at least one positive sign — according to the latest information, after almost two years, Maccabi should finally play their home games again in Tel Aviv.

Real Madrid Form & Team News

Real Madrid had a mixed week in the Euroleague, and with a record of three wins and two losses, they currently sit in 7th place on the table. After a 93:86 win against Partizan, they suffered a heavy 90:75 defeat just three days later against Crvena Zvezda.

The game started well for Real, who built an early double-digit lead and seemed on course for an easy victory, but the home side responded with excellent play in the second and third quarters, completely outplaying the Spanish powerhouse.

Real Madrid failed badly from the three-point line (5/27) and lacked composure from the free-throw line (14/23). With such poor shooting percentages, it would be hard to beat even weaker teams than Crvena Zvezda.

The team’s key players were particularly disappointing. Facundo Campazzo had one of his worst games in recent years, scoring only one point and missing all six of his shots from the field, while Mario Hezonja also struggled, making just one three-pointer out of nine attempts.

The only positive takeaway for Real Madrid was the performance of Chuma Okeke, who scored 16 points and continues to look better with each game.

Last season, both teams won one game each in their head-to-head encounters. The match in Madrid will be remembered for a long time - it ended 116:113, without overtime.

Real Madrid may not be in their best form at the start of the season, but there is no doubt that they will bounce back and start winning consistently.

They have a deep and highly talented roster, and it’s only a matter of time before players like Facundo Campazzo return to their top level. This could very well be the game where we see the best version of the Argentine magician.
