In Round 11 of the Euroleague, Maccabi Tel Aviv will host Baskonia at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade in a clash between two teams near the bottom of the standings.

Very little has gone right for Maccabi Tel Aviv at the start of this season. Even when they play well, they fail to capitalize on it. After 10 games, with a 2-8 record, they share the bottom of the Euroleague standings with ASVEL.

In their first game of the week, played at the SAP Garden in Munich, they were defeated by Fenerbahce 84:75. Maccabi only showed flashes of their recognizable game and for most of the match were unable to take advantage of Fenerbahce’s mediocre performance.

Coach Oded Katash’s team had a disastrous first half, scoring only 30 points and allowing the opponent to take a double-digit lead into halftime.

In the second half, they significantly raised their level of play, and thanks to a fantastic sequence early in the fourth quarter, they managed to erase a 20-point deficit and even take the lead with four minutes left.

At that point, Maccabi had momentum and seemed close to victory, but then came another series of turnovers and poor shot selection, which Fenerbahce exploited to secure the win.

Roman Sorkin played an excellent game with 22 points and 8 rebounds, but he lacked real support from his teammates. Only Jaylen Hoard joined him in double digits with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The club’s biggest summer signing, Lonnie Walker, had another game to forget, hitting just one field goal.

Baskonia Form & Team News

Baskonia’s three-game Euroleague winning streak came to an end on Tuesday after a heavy away loss to league leaders Hapoel Tel Aviv, 114:89. They simply ran into a better, more confident team that’s been dominant this season.

For the first 10 minutes, Baskonia managed to keep pace, but from the second quarter onward, Hapoel went on a shooting spree that the visitors couldn’t match.

French international Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot continued his strong scoring form, leading Baskonia once again with 19 points and solidifying his spot among the Euroleague’s top scorers.

He was joined in double figures by Mamadi Diakite with 13 points, Hamidou Diallo and Matteo Spagnolo with 11 each, and Kobi Simmons with 10.

This game also marked the return of Markus Howard after almost a month out. However, he showed signs of rust, hitting only 3 of his 10 shot attempts.

Maccabi Tel Aviv and Baskonia have played exciting, high-scoring games in recent seasons. Last year, Baskonia won both head-to-head meetings.

Maccabi Tel Aviv v Baskonia

This is one of the rare Euroleague games this season where Maccabi Tel Aviv enters as the favorite. They cannot afford to miss this opportunity to get another win.

This team certainly has the quality, and the motivation is there - they just need to reduce turnovers, control the defensive rebounds, and maintain their usual home-level performance. That should be enough to secure their third win of the season.
