It is not realistic to expect Bayern to be as dominant at home as they were last season, since they lost almost all of their key players. However, no one expected such a disastrous performance against Zalgiris, losing by nearly 30 points.

The Lithuanian team outplayed Bayern in every aspect of the game. They defended the three-point line well, which is Bayern’s strongest weapon, closed their transition game, dominated the rebounds, and forced many turnovers.

Almost no Bayern player was ready to respond to the aggressive style of play imposed by the Lithuanian team. Andre Obst and Rathan-Mayes were the only two Bayern players with double-digit scoring, but even they were far from their best.

With this loss, Bayern joined a large group of teams with a 1-2 record, and a win in the upcoming match is crucial, especially for their confidence.

They slightly healed the wounds from the Zalgiris defeat with a 96–81 domestic league win over Bamberg, but that victory was overshadowed by the injury of experienced point guard Stefan Jovic, who could miss some time.

Judging by the first few weeks of the new season, it looks like another tough and turbulent year for the Milan club.

The season has barely started, and coach Messina has already lost two of his starters - Josh Nebo and Zach Leday. According to the most optimistic reports, they will miss the next three weeks. To make matters worse, sharpshooter Vlatko Cancar is also struggling with an injury, although he is closer to returning.

In the coming period, other Milano players will need to step up and take more responsibility so the team doesn’t have to chase the top contenders later in the competition.

The focus will be on Shavon Shields and Marko Guduric, while veterans Devin Booker and Lorenzo Brown will also need to carry more of the load.

Last weekend, Milano was convincing against Varese in the Italian league, with the somewhat overlooked Armani Brooks leading the team with 20 points. His contribution is extremely important at this moment when two starters are unavailable.

Both teams are weakened by the absence of several key players, so coaches Herbert and Messina will need to look for alternative solutions and some improvisation.

On one side, much depends on the shooting rhythm of Andi Obst, who has been fantastic at the start of the season, while on the other side, the x-factor could be Devin Booker, facing his former club and having a bigger role in the absence of Josh Nebo and Zach Leday.

I expect an exciting and fluid game with a higher number of points than the set total.
