Barcelona Form & Team News

Barcelona ended a mini streak of two consecutive defeats on Tuesday with a comfortable home win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, 93:83.

The game was unusual as it was played behind closed doors at Palau Blaugrana, after security services were unable to guarantee safety for the matchup against the Israeli club.

That circumstance did not affect the home team, who were focused and in control for all 40 minutes, securing a fully deserved victory. From the opening tip, Barcelona were the dominant side and already held a massive 18 point lead by the end of the first quarter.

That advantage grew to a maximum of plus 24 early in the second period, while the closest Maccabi managed to get was cutting the deficit to five points midway through the final quarter. At that moment, Barcelona stepped up once again and calmly repelled the opponents run, ensuring there was no drama in the closing stages.

Veteran Toko Shengelia led the way for the winners with a dominant performance in the paint, scoring 22 points. Nicolas Laprovittola continued his strong form with 14 points, while Kevin Punter added 12, Miles Norris 11, and Willy Hernangomez recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Partizan Form & Team News

With their fifth consecutive defeat, Partizan have dropped to the bottom of the EuroLeague standings with a 6:14 record. At the moment, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for the black and whites, and unfortunately, there has been little improvement even under new head coach Joan Penarroya.

The latest team to dominate the reigning ABA League champions was Monaco, who crushed them 101:84 on home court.

Partizan have turned into a team others use to improve their point differential, and it is hard to see how this group of players can significantly raise their level for the remainder of the season.

Several experienced players such as Nick Calathes, Cam Payne and Tonye Jekiri were brought in, but these moves look more like forced solutions, suggesting the clubs problems run much deeper.

Coach Penarroya is trying hard to revive players like Jabari Parker and Dylan Osetkowski, but it increasingly feels like a mission impossible.

There were almost no positives in Partizans performance against Monaco. The only player worth mentioning was Sterling Brown, who finished with 19 points.

Head to Head

Barcelona have won 12 consecutive EuroLeague games against Partizan, making them an opponent they clearly enjoy facing. The first meeting this season was decided by a Will Clyburn buzzer beater from nearly half court.

Verdict

This Partizan team currently looks completely disorganized, and for new Euroleague wins they will need to wait for a much more favorable opponent.

Even in much better times, Partizan struggled to beat Barcelona, and in their current chaotic situation they stand little chance.

Barcelona have a clear and straightforward opportunity to record another comfortable home victory.
