Wow, wasn't that just a crazy turn in the ALCS. The Boston leg of the series just threw another curveball in this ALCS as the Astros head back to Houston with a 3-2 series lead.

That follows wins in games 4 and 5 at Fenway Park, as not even a boisterous one sided crowd could stop them.

The Red Sox will be wondering what wrong especially after their emphatic performance in game 3 of this series which saw them take a 2-1 lead, but now head back to Houston down 3-2 and are one game away from eliminated.

After losing game 3 at Fenway to hand the Red Sox a 2-1 series advantage, the Astros were on the brink of being eliminated, but credit to Dusty Baker’s men who won game 4 and now won game 5 of this intriguing ALCS.

The Astros began with a bang in game 5 as Yordan Alvarez kicked proceedings off with a solo home run to hand them an early lead in the first inning.

The Astros should also thank their pitching staff especially Framber Valdez who kept the Red Sox scoreless until the seventh inning.

While their pitching was impressive, so was their fielding and batting. They took an early lead in the first innings; however, they didn’t capitalise in the middle part, but that was until they opened the floodgates on top of the sixth, which saw them pile on five runs.

They added another run in the seventh and a further two in the ninth inning as they came away with a 9-1 win.

There is no doubt that Alex Cora and co will be reviewing the last two games of this Boston leg in the ALCS, after they were in a perfect position in the series but failed to capitalise as they blew that chance with losses in games 4 and 5.

Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale had an excellent game 5 despite the team giving up nine runs to go down 9-1.

Sale can hold his head high as he finished the game with seven strikeouts and kept the Astors to a one run lead for the majority of the match (the Astros went 1-0 up in the first inning and then the floodgates opened up from the fifth innings).

The Red Sox fans finally had something to cheer about when Rafael Devers hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was more of a consolation prize as they crashed to heartbreaking 9-1 defeat.

Verdict

Game 6 is as intriguing as it gets as we have seen the best and worst of these two teams.

The Red Sox have been brilliant up until the last two games but they certainly have the firepower to get back into this contest, especially if Chris Sale starts and plays the way he did in game 5.

The Astros looked down and out and then produced two miracle games at Fenway as they head back with a very handy advantage in the series.

Game 5 showed they have all the pieces required to get back into the World Series. However, the Red Sox were in this situation early in the series, and I feel like there is still life in them as this series is by no means over just yet.
