The barrier draw is complete for the 2026 Caulfield Guineas, with 11 three-year-olds set to contest the Group 1 over 1600m at Caulfield on Saturday, October 10.

Golden Rose winner Warwoven has drawn barrier six for Bjorn Baker and Rachel King after completing the Run To The Rose-Golden Rose double in Sydney. The colt was dominant at Rosehill last start, winning the Golden Rose by more than three lengths, and now steps to 1600m for the first time.

Blind Raise has secured barrier two with Blake Shinn retaining the ride for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young. The gelding has won both starts this preparation, including an emphatic 2.75-length victory in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude over 1400m, and stays at Caulfield for his first attempt at the mile.

Tron Bolt has come up with barrier 11 for Chris Waller after finishing fifth behind Warwoven in the Golden Rose. The JJ Atkins winner returns to 1600m, the distance of his Group 1 victory as a juvenile, after two runs over shorter trips to begin his spring campaign.

Diameter will start from barrier nine following his victory in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes over the Caulfield mile. The Waller-trained colt wore down stablemate Somethings Burnin’ in that race, giving both horses proven course-and-distance form heading into Saturday.

Somethings Burnin’ has drawn barrier three after finishing runner-up to Diameter in the Stutt Stakes, while fellow Waller runner Central Europe has barrier seven.

Unit Five has landed the inside draw in barrier one for Ciaron Maher, with stablemates Tornado Valley and Seraphox drawing barriers eight and 10 respectively.

Wolf Gap will start from barrier four for Anthony and Sam Freedman with Ethan Brown aboard, while unbeaten stablemate Call Me Coach has drawn barrier five and will be ridden by Mark Zahra.

With the Golden Rose winner, Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner and the first two home from the Stutt Stakes all represented, the final field brings together the major Sydney and Melbourne three-year-old form lines for Saturday’s Group 1 mile.

Caulfield Guineas History

First run in 1881, the Caulfield Guineas is one of Melbourne’s oldest and most prestigious Group 1 races and has long been regarded as one of the defining three-year-old contests of the spring.

Although the race was temporarily staged at Flemington during the wartime years, it has remained closely associated with Caulfield and continues to be one of the major targets for elite three-year-old colts and geldings.

The Guineas has been contested over 1600m since its inception, with the mile providing an important test of both speed and stamina at a key stage of the spring carnival.

It was elevated to Group 1 status in 1979 when the modern Australian racing classification system was introduced, with Runaway Kid winning that year after champion Manikato had taken out the final edition before the Group system came into effect.

The race has developed a strong reputation as a stallion-making event, with an honour roll featuring influential names such as Redoute’s Choice, Lonhro and All Too Hard, among many other high-class three-year-olds.

Its position on the calendar has also made the Caulfield Guineas a valuable guide towards longer three-year-old features, particularly the Victoria Derby, with 16 horses completing the Guineas-Derby double.

That double has become increasingly difficult to achieve in the modern era, with Helenus in 2002 remaining the most recent horse to win both races in the same spring.

The most recent winners are Griff in 2023, Private Life in 2024 and Autumn Boy, who claimed the 2025 edition.
