Real Madrid Form & Team News

Real Madrid have gained serious momentum in recent weeks and currently look like the team in the best form across the entire competition.

In their first game this week, they demolished Milano at home 106:77, recording their fifth straight EuroLeague win and moving into a group of four teams tied with a 15:8 record.

Real Madrid entered that game as clear favorites, but very few expected such a dominant performance against a highly potent Milano side.

The hosts shot extremely well both from two point range (26/33 FG) and from beyond the arc (12/21), while also establishing a huge rebounding advantage of 35:20.

Coach Scariolo distributed minutes evenly among all twelve players, and Real Madrid’s level of play did not drop at any point during the game.

Trey Lyles was the most efficient scorer with 17 points, Mario Hezonja added 13, while David Kramer delivered one of his best performances since joining the club, scoring 12 points in just 14 minutes on the floor.

Monaco Form & Team News

Before Tuesday’s game against Crvena Zvezda, Monaco were on an impressive run of 11 consecutive wins in all competitions. They entered that matchup as heavy favorites and were expected to take another step toward the top of the standings with a new victory.

Instead, they suffered a shocking overtime loss that could seriously jeopardize their chances of securing home court advantage in the playoffs.

Monaco managed to erase an 18 point deficit from the first half and even built a double digit lead midway through the final quarter.

At that point, they had full control of the score and it seemed they would cruise to another routine win. However, in the final four minutes they experienced an incredible collapse, allowing the opponent to completely get back into the game.

The game went to overtime after Mike James missed the potential game winning shot, and in the extra period there was essentially only one team on the court, Crvena Zvezda.

It remains to be seen whether and how this defeat will affect Monaco’s confidence in this and upcoming games.

Head to Head

Less than a month ago, Real Madrid and Monaco played their first head to head matchup of the season. Monaco claimed the win in a high scoring affair, 100:95.

Verdict

Real Madrid look unstoppable at the moment. Coach Scariolo has a fully healthy roster at his disposal and it appears he has found the right roles for all his players.

In addition, players like Facundo Campazzo and Mario Hezonja, who struggled early in the season, have significantly raised their level of form.

Monaco’s defense will be under enormous pressure in this matchup.
