Despite numerous injury issues at the center position, Panathinaikos have been playing excellent basketball in recent weeks and are beginning to resemble the team from the previous two seasons.

Last week, they recorded two major road wins in Paris and Madrid, improving to a 7-4 record and climbing to 5th place in the standings.

The player who brought much-needed stability in the paint after injuries to Mathias Lessort, Richuan Holmes, and Omer Yurtseven is none other than 36-year-old NBA veteran Kenneth Faried.

The “Manimal” delivered outstanding performances in his first two games and showed he still has plenty of basketball left and can contribute effectively at this level.

Much will be said about his performance in Madrid, where he completely outplayed long-time EuroLeague top center Edy Tavares and was one of the key X-factors in Panathinaikos’ huge win.

Faried finished that game with 16 points and 8 rebounds, and the only player scoring more for Panathinaikos was T.J. Shorts, who had 19 points and 6 assists in his best performance since joining the club. Veteran Kostas Sloukas also played very well with 15 points and 7 assists, while Cedi Osman added 13 points.

Dubai Form & Team News

After 11 rounds, Dubai sit 13th in the EuroLeague standings with a 5-6 record. Like many teams, they are dealing with numerous injuries, but overall they have represented themselves well in their debut season in Europe’s top competition.

As expected, they play significantly better at home than away, with only one road win so far. Just like Panathinaikos, Dubai also recorded two wins last week in the double-round week. They played both games at their Coca-Cola Arena, defeating strong opponents Crvena Zvezda and Zalgiris.

Zalgiris put up more resistance, but Dubai managed to withstand their fourth-quarter push and secure an important victory.

The standout performer was returnee Mfiondu Kabengele, who came back after two weeks and posted a strong double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Also impressive was Aleksa Avramovic, who had missed the start of the season but returned with 16 points, 7 assists, and his trademark defensive intensity. Another Serbian international, Filip Petrusev, added 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Dubai still struggle to replicate their home performances on the road, so it remains to be seen whether anything will change after their trip to Athens.

This will be the first official meeting between these two clubs. The second one is scheduled for Round 33 on March 24.

Panathinaikos v BC Dubai

A lot of positive developments have taken place for Panathinaikos in recent weeks, with the most important being the arrival of Kenneth Faried and the gradual awakening of T.J. Shorts, who had been heavily criticized early in the season.

Faried has provided the team with a strong interior presence, offensive rebounding, and a reliable target for playmakers like Kostas Sloukas and Kendrick Nunn.

Dubai will face major difficulties stopping Panathinaikos’ offense, which is slowly starting to look like the version seen over the past two seasons.
