Milano Form & Team News

After another disappointing start to the season, Milano faced heavy criticism for their performances. However, despite numerous injury problems, Ettore Messina’s team has managed to lift themselves up.

Last week, they earned two home victories against ASVEL and Olympiacos, improving to a 6-5 record and moving into 8th place in the standings.

Their win over title favorites Olympiacos was especially impressive considering they were missing several key players, as well as coach Messina himself.

Shavon Shields, Zach LeDay, Lorenzo Brown, Nate Sestina, and Josh Nebo all missed the game for different reasons, yet the rest of the squad delivered a fantastic team performance to defeat Olympiacos 88-87.

All nine Milano players who stepped on the court scored at least five points, and the standout performer was EuroLeague newcomer Quinn Ellis with 16 points and 5 assists.

He received excellent support from the resurgent Armoni Brooks with 15 points, Devin Booker with 13, and veteran Bryant Dunston, who had his best game of the season with 10 first-half points.

Hapoel Tel Aviv Form & Team News

Hapoel Tel Aviv still hold the top spot in the EuroLeague standings, which they have occupied since the beginning of the competition, but the gap behind them has been shrinking.

In their most recent game, they suffered just their third loss of the season. This time, Fenerbahce proved superior, winning 74-68 in the SAP Garden in Munich.

After the game against Olympiacos, this was Hapoel’s second matchup in which their offense struggled, despite remaining statistically the best in the league.

Fenerbahce slowed the pace early, disrupted Hapoel’s rhythm, and forced the game into a tempo that suited them. Although Hapoel stayed close in the first half, Fenerbahce found their offensive groove after the break and secured a fairly comfortable win.

The Israeli side was completely neutralized inside the paint, where few of their players managed to impose themselves against a tough defensive unit. Their three-point shooting also wasn’t strong enough to compensate.

Elijah Bryant (19 points) and Jonathan Motley (14 points) were the only Hapoel players in good form.
Vasilije Micic struggled, finishing with 11 points on poor shooting (4/13) and only three assists.

Backcourt players Antonio Blakeney, Chris Jones, and Collin Malcolm combined for just 16 points, failing to make an impact.

Head to Head

This is the first of two meetings between Milano and Hapoel Tel Aviv in the EuroLeague regular season. The second one is scheduled for February 26 in Round 29.

Verdict

Milano have lost some key players to injury in recent weeks, but they have gained new contributors in Quinn Ellis and Armoni Brooks, both of whom have stepped up as reliable offensive options.

With Shavon Shields returning and Zach LeDay potentially coming back as well, Milano have a strong chance to at least compete on equal terms with the league leaders and possibly extend their winning streak to five games.
