Olympiacos vs Paris Preview

In Round 12 of the Euroleague, Olympiacos hosts Paris, a team that defeated them on this court last season.

The home team aims for a win that would reinforce their position near the top of the standings, while the visitors have no intention of giving up without a serious fight against the favored opponent.

Olympiacos Form & Team News

After 11 rounds, Olympiacos sits in 4th place in the standings with a 7-4 record. They have been quite inconsistent to start the season, and it is clear they have not yet reached the form that defined them in previous years.

Last week they split their double-round schedule. After a routine 95-78 win over Zalgiris, they suffered an unpleasant defeat two days later against an injury-depleted Milano, losing 88-87.

Very poor performances in the first and third quarters cost the Greek team the victory. They attempted a late comeback in the final period, but it was too late for their trademark style of play to take effect.

Tyler Dorsey once again confirmed his excellent form since the start of the season. He was the main offensive engine of Olympiacos with 25 points in 34 minutes on the court.

Alec Peters also shined, scoring 27 points with only two missed shots, but Sasha Vezenkov and Nikola Milutinov failed to contribute.

The Bulgarian forward had a night to forget with only 6 points (1/7 FG), while the Serbian center could not establish his usual dominance in the paint due to strong defensive pressure.

Paris Form & Team News

Paris continues to play the same brand of basketball that impressed many during their debut Euroleague season last year.

Despite losing their entire starting five over the summer, the system remains strong, and they are already reaping the benefits early in the new season. So far, their results have been quite solid. With a 5-6 record, they sit in the middle of the standings.

In their most recent game, they snapped an unpleasant streak of four straight losses by defeating Valencia 90–86 at home after a late comeback.

Paris trailed 86–79 with 90 seconds left, and it seemed their slump would continue, but then Nadir Hifi and Sebastian Herrera stepped up, hitting key shots from long range to secure a crucial win.

Hifi once again struggled with efficiency, shooting just 4/15 from the field, but he delivered when it mattered most.

He finished as the game’s top scorer with 17 points, followed by Derek Willis with 15, Sebastian Herrera with 13, and Daulton Hommes with 11.

Head to head

Last season, these two teams played a thrilling game at Peace and Friendship Stadium, with Paris taking the win 96–90. T.J. Shorts and Nadir Hifi combined for 41 points.

Verdict

Olympiacos has not yet reached the form they desire and they continue to experience unexpected drop-offs during games, but it is expected they will improve as the season progresses.

This matchup is ideal for them to showcase their offensive potential. Paris is a team that plays at a fast pace and with a high number of possessions, and this arena is definitely not a place where you want to engage in an offensive shootout with the home team.
