Fenerbahce Form & Team News

As the season progresses, Fenerbahce are starting to look more and more like the team from last season that won their second EuroLeague title.

New players are gradually fitting into the demanding system of head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius, and the results are beginning to follow.

Last week, Fenerbahce had a very demanding double round in the EuroLeague, which they finished with mixed results. After a valuable home win against Olympiacos, 88:80, they traveled to Dubai where their four game EuroLeague winning streak ended with a 92:81 loss.

Fenerbahce lacked energy in that game, which was somewhat expected given the extremely tough matchup two days earlier and a nearly five hour flight to the UAE.

By halftime, when they had already allowed 51 points, it was clear in which direction the game was heading. Fenerbahce tried hard to get back into the game in the fourth quarter and managed to cut the deficit to two possessions, but the hosts were able to repel the comeback attempt.

The only three Fenerbahce players who performed at the required level were Wade Baldwin, Horton Tucker and Jantunen, who combined for 49 points, while the rest of the team struggled significantly.

Valencia Form & Team News

Valencia are enjoying a dream season so far, but they will need to maintain the same level of play in the second half of the EuroLeague season if they want to secure a playoff spot.

Ahead of the trip to Istanbul, Valencia share third place in the standings with Barcelona, holding a record of 14 wins and 7 losses. After three consecutive EuroLeague victories, Valencia suffered one of their rare home defeats in the previous round. Monaco were better, winning 101:92.

The game was played at a pace that suits coach Pedro Martinez team, but unfortunately for Valencia, they faced an opponent that also enjoys playing fast basketball and performed with high motivation and quality that night.

The key moment of the game came in the second quarter, which Valencia lost 27:14. That stretch proved decisive, as they spent the rest of the game chasing a double digit deficit that they were never able to reduce to a manageable level.

Kam Taylor and Darius Thompson led Valencia with 18 and 17 points respectively, Jean Montero added 15, while Nathan Reuvers scored 12 points without a miss from the field.

Head to Head

In the first meeting between these teams this season, Valencia recorded a convincing 94:79 victory. Kam Taylor led the way with 17 points, while Brancou Badio added 15.

Verdict

Valencia have a very recognizable style of play that they never abandon, regardless of whether they are playing at home or on the road.

Teams coached by Jasikevicius are known for playing patient and methodical basketball, but in this matchup Fenerbahce will need to adapt to the high tempo imposed by their opponent.
