Bayern Form & Team News

This will be Bayern’s last home game before a month-long road trip in both the EuroLeague and the German championship. At the moment, the German club sits 9th in the EuroLeague standings with a record of 5 wins and 4 losses and is in very good form, having won its last three games.

Last week, they successfully overcame one of the toughest away challenges in the competition against Paris, winning 86-82.

It was another strong performance by coach Gordie Herbert’s team, who managed to withstand all attacks from the extremely aggressive home side that has shown an impressive level of basketball so far this season.

The key to Bayern’s victory in that match was an excellent fourth quarter, where they allowed only 14 points and limited Paris to just 4 field goals.

The most efficient player for Bayern was Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who had one of his best games of the season with 16 points, while Wenyen Gabriel, Vladimir Lucic, and Andreas Obst also scored in double digits with 12 points each.

Barcelona Tips & Live Stream

The Spanish giant is currently going through a very delicate and turbulent period.

After last weekend’s loss to Girona in the ACB League, head coach Joan Penarroya resigned from his position. That was Barcelona’s third consecutive defeat in all competitions.

In the EuroLeague, they currently hold a record of 5 wins and 4 losses, with the most recent defeat coming last week in El Clasico at home, losing convincingly 101-92. It was already clear then that Penarroya’s days at the club were numbered and that it was only a matter of time before the two sides parted ways.

In the derby against Real Madrid, Barcelona once again looked pale and unconvincing. The final score doesn’t even reflect the real situation on the court, as Madrid had a double-digit lead for almost the entire game, at one point reaching as much as +18.

The few bright spots for Barcelona in that match were Will Clyburn with 19 points and Kevin Punter with 18, but that was simply not enough against a highly motivated opponent led by the excellent Trey Lyles, who scored 29 points.

According to the latest reports, Barcelona is preparing for the big return of coach Xavi Pascual, under whom the club last won the EuroLeague title back in 2010. Along with him, the club is also expected to bring in two new player signings, while assistant coach Oscar Orellana will lead the team until the deal is finalized.

Head to Head

Last season, these rivals played two very high-scoring games. The German team won both encounters, with a particularly impressive victory in Barcelona, 102–101.

Verdict

In recent weeks, Bayern has looked very strong offensively. Coach Herbert seems to be gradually putting all the pieces together and finding the right roles for his players. It’s still not the same offensive firepower as last season, but Bayern clearly has more potential, especially with Spencer Dinwiddie still adjusting to the European style of play.

I expect another good performance from the Bavarians, but also a reaction from Barcelona’s players under new leadership. This should be a real shooting duel between two offensively potent teams.
