Turkey Form & Team News

Turkey entered the knockouts riding the momentum of a perfect group stage. In the Round of 16, they had to battle from behind to beat Sweden, and once again it was Alperen Sengun who led the charge. He finished with 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists, dominating the paint and setting the tone on both ends. His presence completely shifted the flow of the game.

Sengun isn’t doing it alone. Shane Larkin played a crucial role in managing the offense, hitting timely shots and keeping things under control when the pressure was on. His speed and decision-making give Turkey another dimension, especially in the pick-and-roll with Sengun, which has become a reliable weapon.

Turkey’s supporting cast continues to step up. Players like Furkan Korkmaz provide scoring and spacing on the wing, while Cedi Osman adds experience, defensive intensity, and the ability to attack mismatches.

Head coach Ergin Ataman has shaped a team that understands its identity, they play hard, play smart, and don’t lose composure under pressure.

If Turkey wants to reach the semifinals, the formula is simple: dominate the paint, stay aggressive on the glass, and let their leaders make plays. With the rhythm they’ve built, they’ll be tough to slow down.

Poland Form & Team News

Poland’s path was tough but impressive. In the Round of 16, they had to fight back after a slow start against Bosnia and Herzegovina, eventually pulling off an 80:72 win. Jordan Loyd was the engine, he dropped 28 points and led the charge with confidence and poise, stepping up exactly when Poland needed a spark.

Mateusz Ponitka brought experience and composure, contributing 19 points along with strong rebounding and hustle plays that helped shift the momentum. His presence on both ends of the floor gave Poland stability when the game got chaotic.

The team’s physicality stood out, especially on the glass. Poland grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, creating second-chance points that proved crucial in the comeback. Their defense tightened in the second half, and they made smart decisions down the stretch to close it out.

This is a group that doesn’t back down. They’re not built on flash, they win with toughness, smart shot selection, and trust in each other. If Loyd and Ponitka stay hot and the team continues to control the boards, Poland will have a real shot at upsetting Turkey and moving on to the semifinals.

Head to Head

Turkey and Poland have faced each other five times since 2009, with Turkey leading the series 3–2, though Poland won their last official EuroBasket meeting in 2011 with a narrow 84–83 victory.

Verdict

Türkiye v Poland

Turkey comes in as a clear favorite, with more depth, stronger individual talent, and a defense that can disrupt Poland’s rhythm. Poland will rely heavily on Jordan Loyd to carry the scoring load, but facing Turkey’s physical and structured defense could limit his efficiency.

Given the stakes and the defensive focus both teams bring, the pace is likely to be controlled and possessions more deliberate. Jordan Loyd remains Poland’s main scoring threat and a solid pick for points, while the overall game flow suggests a lower-scoring, hard-fought battle.
