Finland pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament so far with an 84:79 victory over top favorite Serbia in the Round of 16.

From the very start of the game, Finland had a clear game plan and stuck to it until the end.

They pushed for a fast-paced style with plenty of transition shots, attacked the offensive glass, and targeted Nikola Jokic on defense whenever possible.

It paid off, and it is fair to say that rebounding was the decisive factor in Finland’s favor, as they grabbed an incredible 20 offensive rebounds.

Lauri Markkanen had a below-average shooting night (8/24), but Mikael Jantunen stepped up with 15 points, while Miro Little and Elias Valtonen added 13 each.

It was Valtonen who hit the crucial three-pointer for a +6 lead with one minute left in the game.

Georgia were given little to no chance against France, but this team once again showed how tough, resilient, and relentless they are.

They played by far their best game of the tournament, defeating France 80:70 and achieving the best result in the history of their national team.

Toko Shengelia, as a true leader and captain, delivered his best performance when it mattered most.

The veteran, who had serious health issues before the tournament, scored 24 points with 8 rebounds.

Kamar Baldwin matched him with 24 points, completely outplaying the French guards, while Sandro Mamukelashvili contributed a strong double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Georgia have already exceeded all expectations at this tournament, but there is no doubt they will give everything to take another step forward.

Finland v Georgia

Finland have a slight edge in this matchup, primarily because of Lauri Markkanen, who is a cheat code at this level.

However, I believe Georgia’s head coach Aleksandar Dzikic and his staff will prepare a special tactic to minimize his impact. Georgia have the size and personnel to slow Markkanen down, and if they succeed, their chances of winning increase significantly.

I expect a slower-paced game and a lower-scoring contest.
