The 2022 Zipping Classic is a Group Two 2400m event run on November 26 at Caulfield racecourse.

Sound (barrier 10) has won the last two editions of the Zipping Classic and once again looks on-track for another win after running super in the Queen Elizabeth behind Soulcombe over the Flemington Carnival.

Luncies (barrier four) was second in that event and has been competitive in some top form races this Spring Carnival, while Without A Fight (barrier one) started as a single figure chance in the Melbourne Cup and was not quite suited in the very wet conditions.

Vow And Declare (barrier three) is a Melbourne Cup winner and has been finding some better form this preparation, while Chapada (barrier eight) is always around the mark in whatever he runs in.

Zipping Classic Winners

The Sandown Classic, as the race is more commonly known, has a long and rich history. But it was only in 1999 that it stepped up to elite level having long been an open handicap.

It is a Group 2 event targetting middle-distances horses for one final race of the Spring. Since 2011 it has been named in honour of Zipping, who won the then Sandown Classic for years in row between 2007-2010.
