McGregor vs Cerrone UFC 246 Betting Tips

The world's biggest sports star returns to the octagon this Sunday as Conor McGregor faces off against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone at T-Mobile Arena.

Both men need a win for very different reasons.

McGregor's fighting for the first time since his humiliating submission defeat at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov nearly a year and a half ago.

Cerrone is on a two fight losing streak after losing in the second round to Tony Ferguson before a brutal first round KO courtesy of Justin Gaethje.

Cerrone possesses the most wins in UFC history, but we believe it will be McGregor who gets his career back on track on Sunday.

McGregor vs Cerrone Betting Odds

Conor McGregor comes into his return bout as the strong $1.35 favourite at online bookmaker Sportsbet.

Donald Cerrone is the $3.15 outsider heading into Sunday.

Conor McGregor Form

This is the first time Conor McGregor has fought since his October 7, 2018 submission defeat to Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov.

That bout was as comprehensive as you can see in the octagon and we could have excused the Irishman for not wanting to return to the octagon. In true McGregor fashion he declared that he wasn't focused in that fight and has recaptured his passion for the sport.

Whether or not that's the truth remains to be seen.

Donald Cerrone Form

Cerrone has been a stalwart of the UFC, winning the most bouts in the company's history.

One thing that has plagued Cowboy throughout his career is stalling at the biggest moments of his career. At his best Cerrone looks unstoppable, with no real weaknesses in his game, but his unwillingness to study his opponents can come back to bite him against truly elite fighters.

Cerrone is on a two fight losing streak, but those bouts were against two of the top lightweight fighters in the form of Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje.

At his best he is capable of beating Conor McGregor, but will we see that Cowboy on Sunday?

McGregor vs Cerrone Verdict

It is one of the most anticipated bouts of the year but we believe Conor will be far too good for Cerrone.

While we admire Cowboy and his UFC legacy, he is not on McGregor's level as a stand up fighter. Cowboy is a notoriously slow starter, which plays right into the hands of Conor, who famously holds the fastest knockout in UFC title bout history.

Cerrone has also shown in the past that he struggles against fighters with true knockout power and there are few in the MMA world that can deliver the killer blow quite like McGregor.

We believe Conor McGregor gets his career back on track this Sunday en route to a potential rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
