Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje clash in a hugely-anticipated lightweight title fight at UFC 254 on Sunday. Khabib returns to action 13 months since his last title defence and is favourite to defeat Gaethje on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

Undefeated Khabib once again puts his UFC Lightweight Championship belt on the line in a unification fight when up comes up against Justin Gaethje, arguably his toughest opponent yet.

The Eagle took his undefeated record to 28 when defeating Dustin Poirier on submission in September last year in Abu Dhabi, and returns from an absence of more than 13 months since that victory.

Khabib has enjoyed an exemplary career in UFC and won the title against Al Iaquinta in April 2018. He successfully defended it when beating Conor McGregor in the fourth round of a huge clash in October 2018 before getting the better of Poirier.

This will be the first time that Russian Khabib has appeared in the octagon since the death of his father and coach Abdulmanap.

Justin Gaethje (MMA Record 22-2-0)


American Gaethje set up a shot at Khabib when winning the interim UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 249 in May when he defeated Tony Ferguson in Jacksonville, Florida.

Since losing to both Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier - the first two defeats of his career - in December 2017 and April 2018, Gaethje has recorded four victories in a row. 

Gaethje scored first round wins over James Vick, Edson Barboza and Donald Cerrone before impressively stopping Ferguson in the final round. All four wins have come via KO or TKO from punches and that will be tactic he employs again in Abu Dhabi.
