Having celebrated her 18th birthday on Tuesday, Andreeva will be hoping to continue an extraordinary season in which she's already captured two WTA 1000 titles, while Gauff - still just 21 years of age - is chasing a first title of 2025 following a difficult year so far.
I like Andreeva in this clash - the Russian has won her last five matches against top 10 players and has taken her game to another level this year. Andreeva pushed Gauff on clay two years ago at Roland Garros and she's a much superior player today. Gauff meanwhile hasn't kicked on from her strong finish to 2024 and is yet to defeat a top 10 player this season. Should be a relatively close encounter, but on current form, Andreeva has the edge.
Head To Head
Gauff leads 2-0, coming from behind to win their 2023 French Open clash before prevailing in straights later that year at the US Open. This will be their first meeting outside of the slams.
Coco Gauff Form
Gauff heads into this showdown with a 17-6 record on the season and hoping to build some confidence ahead of the French Open, where she made the semi-finals last year.
The American ended 2024 with the WTA Finals title and began 2025 with a nine-match winning streak in Australia, but it's been a struggle since going down to Paula Badosa in the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park.
Indeed, before this week, Gauff had failed to win more than two matches in a row at any of her subsequent tournaments post-Melbourne.
However, Gauff is starting to find some form again in Madrid, recovering from a shocking 0-6 first set loss to Dayana Yastremska in the opening round to beat the Ukrainian before straight sets victories over Ann Li and Belinda Bencic to advance into the quarter-finals.
Mirra Andreeva Form
Andreeva has compiled a superb 24-5 record so far in 2025, surging into the top 10 and into immediate contention for all the big titles.
The 18-year-old put together a brilliant run of form to secure back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells, defeating Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina twice, along with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka during that period.
After making the semi-finals of Roland Garros last year as a 17-year-old, Andreeva's clay season didn't get off to the best start as she was eliminated from Stuttgart by Ekaterina Alexandrova.
However, Andreeva has returned to some of her best tennis in Madrid, steamrolling into the quarter-finals without dropping a set, easing past Marie Bouzkova, Magdalena Frech and Yuliia Starodubtseva.
Andreeva is now 10-2 in Madrid, with both of her previous defeats coming against Sabalenka, while she's gone 4-0 in her last four quarter-final matches.

Verdict
Andreeva has been by far the better player throughout 2025 and she's on a five-match winning streak vs top 10 players and has won her last four quarter-finals.
Gauff is yet to defeat a top 10 player in 2025, so Andreeva is favoured to prevail here.
