After months of speculation regarding who would win Wimbledon in 2023, most predictions were blown out of the water as unseeded star Marketa Vondrousova found a way to secure the title in stunning style.
Vondrousova downed Ons Jabeur in the final, but she is not in contention to win this year after being eliminated, with Barbora Krejcikova at the head of the betting, priced at $1.70 by bet365.
Aryna Sabalenka was the favourite to secure the title at the third Grand Slam event of the year before having to withdraw due to injury. Elena Rybakina then took over the mantle, but she was stunned in the semi-finals by Barbora Krejcikova, who is now the favourite at $1.70.
This comes after an incredible Round of 16 in which favourites Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff were eliminated, while hopefuls Emma Raducanu and Ons Jabeur were also sent packing.
Jasmie Paolini is the only player left that can stop Krejcikova, with the former available at $2.25.
The semi-finals saw two epic matches played on Centre Court. First, Paolini ended Donna Vekic's stunning run to the last four with a pulsating 2-6 6-4 7-6 (10-8) triumph before Krejcikova ended Elena Rybakina's hopes in a 3-6 6-3 6-4 triumph.
Wimbledon in 2024 has been incredibly unpredictable. Reigning champion Marketa Vondrousova was humbled in the opening round as she was beaten 6-4 6-2 by Jessica Bouzas to ensure she would not defend her title in 2024.
Vondrousova's victory in 2023 once again highlighted the incredibly volatile and unpredictable nature of the women's game. The likes of Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek were all fancied to go all the way, but the unseeded Vondrousova came out on top.
While this is brilliant for fans of an upset and great if you can nail a bet on an underdog, it can make wagering on women's tennis tough.
Jabeur was once again fancied to avenge her loss in the 2023 Wimbledon final, but she was brushed aside in a 6-4 6-4 loss to Vondrousova.
Defeat was the second time in the space of a year that Jabeur has missed out on picking up the trophy at Wimbledon, and it will have bettors questioning whether Jabeur is a viable option to back going forward.
