US Open Quarter Final Wawrinka vs Medvedev Preview, Predictions & Tips

Stan Wawrinka versus Daniil Medvedev looks a highlight in the second week of the tournament.

Wawrinka has been one of the worlds best for a very long time while Medvedev is the young kid on the rise. Wawrinka won his way through last game with the number one seed Novak Djokovic retiring in the third set so he should be fresh for this game.

Medvedev loves a hard court and has a lot of matches under his belt but he should be still fresh enough to compete with Wawrinka.

It hasn't just been Medvedev's tennis that has gotten the world talking.

The Russian has caused a stir throughout his last two matches after whipping the crowd into a frenzy with his post-match insult fests directed at the New York natives.

The crowd will be hoping he loses but we will be backing Medvedev to win at $2.05 via Sportsbet.

Stan Wawrinka Form

Stan Wawrinka dropped one set in his first and second round matches before beating Lorenzi in straight sets and winning his way through to the quarter finals with Djokovic retiring.

He looks the danger man in this half of the draw, being a multiple Grand Slam winner himself, he knows what it takes to win big game.

My downside to Wawrinka is that he is getting older and he is facing a possible future world number one, who loves playing on the hard court which suits his game style. Wawrinka will need to be making sure he is hitting lines from the baseline or Medvedev may be too quick for the Swissman.

Daniil Medvedev Form

Doesn't this young man love playing on the hard court.

Medvedev had dropped three sets in his opening four rounds at Flushing Meadows, grinding out most sets in tiebreakers and one break.

The Russian won in style in his fourth round match, beating Dominik Koepfer en route to his first grand slam quarter final.

He is playing like a man possessed at the moment, and his legs do not look to be giving up on him just yet, as he looks energised to take his game all the way to the end of the tournament.

Medvedev is the $2.05 drifter in the game via BetEasy, but this looks value.

Wawrinka vs Medvedev Head To Head

The two have played off in one previous encounter, at Wimbledon in 2017 where the young Russian took out the match in four sets.

Wawrinka vs Medvedev Key Statistics

  • Medvedev has won the first set in each of his last eight ATP quarter finals
  • Medvedev has gone on to win the match after winning the first set in 95 per cent of his matches this season
  • Wawrinka has only won 22 per cent of his matches after losing the first set this season

Although Wawrinka may the proven warrior, we believe young Daniil Medvedev is the new kid on the block and can take down the champ and advance into the semi final.

We will be backing him to win at the quote of $2.05.
