World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty entered the Australian Open after victory in the Adelaide International, her 14th career title.
She defeated Cori Gauff, Sofia Kenin, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rynakina en route to winning the Adelaide title.
In the first round of the Australian Open, Barty dominated qualifier Lesia Tsurenko. She won the first 11 games before sealing victory 6-0 6-1 before defeating another qualifier Lucia Bronzetti 6-1 6-1 in the second round.
Barty proved too good for 30th seed Camila Giorgio 6-2 6-3 in the third round and on Sunday got the better of Amanda Anisimova 6-4 6-3 to reach the quarter finals.

Jessica Pegula ended 2021 with a quarter-final run at Indian Wells where she lost to Victoria Azarenka.
The 27-year-old started this year in poor fashion, knocked out in the first round in Melbourne and Sydney in straight sets to Irina Camelia Begu and Caroline Garcia, both outside the Top 50.
Pegula has had an easy run at the Australian Open. She beat World No. 49 Anhelina Kalinina 4-6 7-6 7-5 in the first round, saving 10/14 break points.
The American did it easier to reach the fourth round, beating Bernarda Pera 6-4 6-4 and Nuria Parrizas Diaz 7-6 6-2, both players outside the Top 60.
In the fourth round, Pegula produced her best performance of the tournament as she defeated World No. 8 and Australian Open fifth seed Maria Sakkari 7-6 6-3 to book her spot in the last eight.
