The Italian transformed into the player he is today in Beijing 12 months ago, beating Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev back-to-back to secure the silverware.

Sinner is back into the China Open final, but it hasn't been smooth sailing. With the WADA doping appeal hanging over his head, Sinner needed three sets to beat Nicolas Jarry and Roman Safiullin before toppling Jiri Lehecka and Bu Yunchaokete in tough straight set battles.

He hasn't been quite as dominant as Sinner, but Alcaraz has still had outstanding moments throughout the 2024 season, picking up the other two major titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, along with claiming the Indian Wells Masters - widely regarded as the biggest trophy outside the slams and season-ending finals.

Alcaraz was also agonisingly close to securing the Olympic gold medal, but he ran into an inspired Novak Djokovic, who simply wasn't going to be stopped that day.

That final took a lot out of Alcaraz, both physically and mentally, and he subsequently lost early at Cincinnati and the US Open.

However, the Spaniard is back playing some brilliant tennis and importantly, he looks like he's enjoying it again. Alcaraz hasn't dropped a single set in reaching the Beijing final, sweeping aside Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Tallon Griekspoor, Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev.
