Sinner is the undisputed best player in the world and the ongoing WADA doping appeal doesn't seem to be affecting him too much so far in Beijing - the Italian is expected to make light work of Bu, who has become the lowest-ranked China Open semi-finalist in history this week.
Head To Head
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Jannik Sinner Form
It was around this time 12 months ago when Sinner took his game to another level, beating Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev back-to-back to win the China Open.
Since then, Sinner has been almost unstoppable. The 23-year-old has registered an incredible 58-5 record so far in 2024, winning 38 of his last 40 matches on hardcourt.
Sinner became only the fourth player in the Open Era to win the Australian Open and US Open in the same season when he triumphed in New York last month, while he's now on a 15-match winning streak after also securing the Cincinnati Masters.
With the WADA appeal hanging over his head, Sinner dropped sets against Nicolas Jarry and Roman Safiullin in Beijing before taking care of the dangerous Jiri Lehecka 6-2 7-6 in the quarter-finals, saving two set points in the tiebreak.
Bu Yunchaokete Form
It's been an outstanding last few months for Bu, who has propelled himself from well outside the top 100 to a current live ranking of No. 69, meaning he can leave the Challenger Tour behind and begin to establish himself on the main tour.
Bu won a ton of matches on the Challenger Tour during the North American summer and managed to qualify for his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open, where he unfortunately drew Casper Ruud in the opening round.
The 22-year-old continued his momentum at the start of the Asian swing, making the semi-finals of Hangzhou last week before upping the ante in Beijing, securing his first top 20 and top 10 victories over Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev.
Bu is now the first Chinese semi-finalist in ATP Beijing history and the lowest-ranked to make it this far at the China Open.

Verdict
It's been a fairytale run for Bu, who has taken his game to another level and given himself the opportunity to play on the main tour going forward.
However, this seems a step too far. Sinner has been near-unstoppable on hardcourt this season and is currently riding a 15-match winning streak - backing the Italian to cruise into the final.
