Sinner is the defending champion at this tournament and looked good in his opening match, while Tabilo was born in Canada and will have plenty of support, with all other locals having already been eliminated.

Sinner returned from illness that forced him out of the Olympics in his opening match on Thursday, easing past Borna Coric by a 6-2 6-4 score.

The Italian improved his season record to an intimidating 43-4, while he's now won 22 of his last 23 matches on hardcourt after blitzing the first quarter of the season with titles at the Australian Open, Rotterdam and Miami, along with a runner-up finish at Indian Wells.

The defending Canada Masters champion, Sinner stormed to the title in Toronto last season for the loss of just one set, and with the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic absent - and Daniil Medvedev suffering an early exit - he's the overwhelming favourite to go back-to-back.

It's been an outstanding season for Tabilo, who has improved his record to 28-15 with two impressive victories in Montreal this week.

Tabilo began his campaign with a straight sets dispatch of Frances Tiafoe and backed it up with another comfortable victory over Lorenzo Sonego.

The Chilean, who was born and spent most of his life in Canada, broke into the top 20 earlier this season after picking up two ATP titles in Auckland and Mallorca, while Tabilo also made the Rome Masters semi-finals, beating Djokovic along the way.
