Both players have been rolling so far in Beijing, advancing to the semi-finals without relinquishing a single set in three matches - who emerges triumphant in the Chinese capital to reach the final?
Head To Head
Alcaraz leads 5-2, winning four of the last five meetings between the pair. Medvedev's two wins came in their very first encounter at Wimbledon in 2021 and also at the 2023 US Open. Alcaraz has defeated Medvedev twice in 2024 at Wimbledon and Indian Wells.
Carlos Alcaraz Form
Alcaraz has registered a 46-9 record on the season, winning two more Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, along with picking up the Indian Wells Masters on hardcourt.
However, the Spaniard lost some momentum following his heartbreaking loss to Novak Djokovic in the Olympics final, losing early at both Cincinnati and the US Open to Gael Monfils and Botic Van De Zandschulp respectively.
Clearly suffering from burnout, Alcaraz has seemingly rested up, returning to lead Team Europe to victory in the Laver Cup before arriving in Beijing, where he's cruised into the semi-finals without dropping a set in victories over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Tallon Griekspoor and Karen Khachanov.
Amazingly, Alcaraz has never won a hardcourt title at 250 or 500 level, while he has lost three of his last four hardcourt semi-finals. He also has a poor 2-6 record in hardcourt semi-finals in his last eight matches against top 10 players.
Daniil Medvedev Form
Medvedev has never really consistently hit his best level throughout 2024, but he's remained in the top five and registered a 42-16 record on the season.
However, Medvedev has still yet to win a title, meaning he's risking going an entire season without silverware for the first time since 2017.
The Russian has been thwarted by Jannik Sinner at two of the four Grand Slams this season and he would love to potentially earn another crack at the Italian in the Beijing final.
Medvedev has progressed into the China Open semi-finals without losing a set, toppling Gael Monfils, Adrian Mannarino and Flavio Cobolli.

Verdict
Alcaraz is back playing fantastic tennis and he's got a great record over Medvedev lately, but he's never won a title post-US Open and he's struggled in hardcourt semi-finals against top 10 players in recent times.
Basically I just can't justify Alcaraz at $1.25 to win here. Medvedev has the ability and he's been building nicely so far in Beijing. Backing the Russian to win a set as our best bet and he's the value outright too.
