Zverev and Rune played out a five-set thriller at Roland Garros earlier this season and we can expect another entertaining affair under the lights in Montreal with a quarter-final spot up for grabs.

This will be the third meeting between the pair, with the H2H locked at 1-1.

As mentioned, Zverev edged past Rune at the French Open in five sets a couple of months ago, while Rune was a dominant straight sets winner in their first encounter in Munich two years ago.

Zverev has well and truly bounced back to his best form after his serious ankle injury at the French Open a couple of years ago and has compiled a dominant 48-14 record in 2024.

The German won the Rome Masters title and advanced to the French Open final, where he agonisingly blew a two-sets-to-one lead against Carlos Alcaraz, ultimately going down in five.

After suffering a disappointing quarter-final exit at the Olympics to Lorenzo Musetti, Zverev got back on track swiftly in Montreal, completely dismantling the in-form Jordan Thompson 6-1 6-1 in just 63 minutes.

Zverev is gunning for his second Canada Masters title this week after taking out the 2017 tournament with a win over Roger Federer in the final.

Holger Rune Form

It hasn't been a great last 12 months or so for Rune, who has seen his ranking slip from the top four to a current mark of No. 17.

Rune has dealt with injuries and can't quite seem to decide what coach is the best fit to take his game to the next level.

The Danish youngster is 27-15 for the season and looks to have recovered from a wrist injury that forced him out of the Olympics.

Rune edged past Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets in his Montreal opener and took out the 2022 Montreal champion Pablo Carreno Busta by a dominant 6-1 6-3 score to set up this meeting with Zverev.
