Misty Summer sizzles for Waller at Gosford
Could Misty Summer be the next star of the Waller stable after a stylish maiden win at Gosford?
The Autumn Sun colours saluted in style at Gosford today
The Chris Waller stable looks to have another potential star on its hands after Misty Summer broke the maiden tag at Gosford on Tuesday.
The four-year-old mare by Dundeel managed to beat the odds on favourite Deelbraka by almost two lengths on the line.
Misty Summer lead the five horse field from barrier two with the favourite breathing down her neck on the outside. Jockey Tommy Berry pressed the button on the mare on the turn before putting a two length margin on Deelbraka and gapping the third place getter Kings Row by over four lengths.
Winning looks in the lineage for Misty Summer.
Dundeel has produced the likes of star Group One winning two-year-old Castelvecchio who looks destined for a mile and beyond this preparation. He has also produced Global Exchange, a three-year-old Group Three winner over 2040m in the autumn.
Her dam Wind Bender was a $500,000 yearling, also raced by Chris Waller. She finished sixth in an ATC Oaks in the wet before going on to win two more races in her 19 start career.
Misty Summer looks destined to get up to a trip of a mile and a half and the stable will look to insert her into city races later in her preparation.
The fact that Chris Waller purchased her, being from a dam that he trained and paying a large price for her, we can look at Misty Summer as a horse we can follow throughout her career – especially after today’s powerful performance.
The maiden plate today was worth almost $17,000 for first, but this only looks the beginning of what could potentially be a strong staying career.
