Australia vs Bangladesh Tips

Australia are looking to start their World Cup qualifiers with a big win as they host their unfancied opponents on Thursday.

  • Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh arrive for this one as massive underdogs, but they will hope for a strong start that could yet result in some form of points.

  • Australia beat New Zealand 2-0 in their last outing
  • Australia have won three of their last four home matches (L1)
  • Bangladesh are unbeaten in their last four (W1, D3)
  • Bangladesh have seen BTTS in their last three in a row

Head To Head

The two sides have met twice before, with Australia winning 5-0 at home back in September 2015, while they romped to a 4-0 win on the road a few months later.

Australia Form

While Australia have not been perfect of late, they have battled hard against some very good opponents.

A 2-0 loss to world champions Argentina was quickly followed by a 2-2 draw with Mexico. Next, they fell to a 1-0 loss against a much-changed England, with this a friendly they could have gotten a result in. Their latest match ended in a 2-0 win over rivals New Zealand, with this ending a run of four without a win.

Australia are big favourites in this one and they will hope to make the most out of opening their World Cup qualifiers against a side that have beaten by four goals or more in their last two meetings.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh are on the hunt for a huge result in this one as they travel to the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium for their first 2026 World Cup Qualifier.

Despite being major underdogs in this one, they arrive on the back of a four-game unbeaten run, with this featuring three draws and a win. Of course, the quality of their opponents has hardly been high, with two draws against Afghanistan, a draw with the Maldives and then a win over the Maldives hardly headline news in the world of football.

However, with their opponents not quite in winning form of late, the away side will look to stay tight and try to sneak a goal against their opponents.

I am backing Australia to run out as the winners in this one as they romp to yet another big win.
