It's been a dismal season for both clubs in the Premier League - United and Tottenham are currently 16th and 17th on the ladder respectively and in another season, could easily have been relegated after failing to reach 40 points. However, one club will emerge with Europa League silverware - and perhaps more crucially, a spot in next season's Champions League. Tottenham haven't won a trophy since their 2008 EFL Cup triumph over Chelsea, while United were Europa League winners in 2017 and also defeated rivals Man City for the FA Cup silverware last season.
I think H2H and current form go out the window here. It's about experience and whoever performs better on the night and that's why I'm siding with United. The Red Devils have several players with experience in these sorts of situations, while Bruno Fernandes has been in prolific goal-scoring form in the Europa League, leading the charts with seven from his last eight appearances. We'd love Big Ange to fulfil the prophecy of winning a trophy in his second season at every club, but I've just got a feeling United go from barely qualifying for this season's Europa League to securing a ticket into the Champions League via that competition while coming 16th in the EPL.
Head To Head
Tottenham are actually unbeaten in their last six meetings with United, winning all three this season - including a 3-0 crushing at Old Trafford, a 1-0 triumph at home and a 4-3 victory in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
Tottenham Form
Tottenham have won nine of their 14 Europa League matches this season, eliminating AZ Alkmaar, Eintract Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt in the knockout phase to secure their spot in the final.
Overcoming former Europa League winners Frankfurt, who finished third in the Bundesliga this season, was the main obstacle for Spurs, who ultimately cruised past Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate, with Dominic Solanke scoring in both legs.
Of course, Tottenham's form in the league has been diabolical - they've lost 21 games this season and are languishing in 17th spot on the ladder.
Ange Postecoglou has held onto his job due to the club's presence in the Europa League and it would be an incredible way to silence his doubters if he could continue his record of winning a trophy in his second season at every club he's managed. Big Ange is already the first Australian to manage in a European final.
Tottenham Team News
Big Ange opted to rest a large chunk of his first team in last week's 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, with Guglielmo Vicario, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and Pedro Porro all set to return here.
Captain Heung-min Son started for the first time since recovering from a foot injury and will likely retain his place, but Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin are all still sidelined.
Man United Form
United are aiming to become just the fourth team in history to win the Europa League while going unbeaten throughout the campaign.
Additionally, only three teams have scored more than United's 35 goals in a Europa League campaign.
Ruben Amorin's side survived a thrilling quarter-final tie against Lyon, somehow recovering from two goals down in extra-time, with Harry Maguire's winner securing a famous 7-6 aggregate victory.
United then dominated Bilbao in the semi-finals, easing to a 7-1 aggregate win to book their ticket back to Basque Country for the final.
Amorin now has the chance to become just the third United manager to win a major trophy in his debut season at the club.
Man United Team News
Unlike Postecoglou, Amorin opted to play the bulk of his starting squad last week, going down 1-0 to Chelsea.
Matthijs de Ligt is in doubt for United, while Lisandro Martinez is out until next season. Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee and Diogo Dalot have just recovered from injuries and it remains to be seen if they feature.
Verdict
As mentioned, form and recent H2H meetings go out the window in a match like this. I'm backing United's experience in these situations to give them an edge, unfortunately denying Big Ange a Europa League trophy.
