Serbian SuperLiga Format


There are 16 teams that compete in the Serbian SuperLiga who play each other twice in the regular season. After the regular season the top eight placed teams compete in the championship round and the eight lowest placed teams compete in the relegation playoff round. 

The two bottom placed teams are relegated to the Serbian Prva Liga. The third lowest-placed team contests a relegation playoff against the third-placed team in the Serbian Prva Liga. 

The Serbain SuperLiga winners qualify for the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The second and third placed teams qualify for the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

Serbian SuperLiga History


The Yugoslav First League began in 1923 and ran until 1991 when clubs from Slovenia and Croatia left to form their own individual leagues. Clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia left to form their own leagues in 1992.

The Yugoslav First League continued to be played from 1992 with clubs from Serbia and Montenegro. Montenegro declared independence in 2006 and formed its own league.

The competition was renamed the Serbian SuperLiga in 2006 with all clubs from Serbia.
