Chasing a first Champions League final appearance since 2006, Arsenal suffered a disappointing first leg defeat at home, going down 1-0 after PSG star Ousmane Dembele continued his remarkable goal-scoring form with a strike inside the opening five minutes. Truth be told, PSG easily could have increased their lead in the final stages of that game, so the fact Arsenal are only trailing by a 1-0 deficit could be viewed as encouraging.
However, only two teams in Champions League history have managed to progress to the Champions League final after losing at home in the first leg - Ajax vs Panathinaikos in 1996 and Tottenham against Ajax in 2019. Furthermore, PSG have advanced from UEFA competition in 18 of their last 19 ties after winning away in the first leg. Arsenal have also never progressed in a European knockout tie after losing the opening leg at home.
I'm backing an open game here, with Arsenal having no choice but to go for it. This should lead to both teams finding the back of the net, but for me, PSG are the superior side and have taken care of business against multiple English clubs so far this Champions League campaign - they look destined for the final. Dembele is also backed as an Anytime Goalscorer, but may not start after the hamstring injury he suffered in the first leg.
- Arsenal have lost their last two games
- PSG have defeated Man City, Liverpool & Aston Villa already this UCL campaign
- BTTS has landed in four of PSG's last five home games
- Arsenal have scored in eight of their last nine UCL games
- Ousmane Dembele has scored 33 goals in all competitions this season
- Ousmane Dembele has scored eight UCL goals this term
Head To Head
Arsenal secured a 2-0 home win over PSG in the league phase earlier in the competition, but were comprehensively outplayed in a 1-0 defeat in the first leg last week.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal's form has dipped over the last month or so and they come into this contest with just two wins from their last six games in all competitions.
Failure to win here would see the Gunners experience another trophy-less season, with Mikel Arteta's side even in danger of being overtaken by the likes of Man City and Newcastle in the Premier League to finish the season.
Attack was again an issue on the weekend for Arsenal as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Arsenal will hope to draw on their recent good record on the road in Europe, which has seen them win four straight matches, scoring 2+ goals in each.
Arsenal Team News
Huge boost for Arsenal, with Thomas Partey returning from suspension after his presence in midfield was sorely missed in the opening leg defeat.
Jorginho (lung), Gabriel Jesus (knee), Kai Havertz (hamstring), Gabriel Magalhaes (hamstring), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and Riccardo Calafiori (knee) are all still sidelined, while Jurrien Timber is still being monitored after missing the loss to Bournemouth this past weekend.
PSG Form
A historic treble is still on the cards for PSG, with the French heavyweights having already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title and into the Coupe de France final against Reims.
A much more well-rounded team this season having dispatched of their superstar individuals, PSG have reaped the rewards and are now a huge chance at Champions League silverware.
PSG are preparing for a sixth straight Champions League fixture against English opposition after knocking out Liverpool and Aston Villa in the R16 and quarter-finals, while they also defeated Man City in the league phase.
Luis Enrique made 10 changes to the team that beat Arsenal 1-0 in the first leg this weekend in Ligue 1 as PSG went down 2-1 to Strasbourg - but you can't take anything from that game considering they already have the league title secured.
Ousmane Dembele has been a revelation this season, with the winger scoring 33 goals in all competitions, including eight in the Champions League and 26 in 2025 alone.
PSG Team News
PSG are sweating on the fitness of Dembele, who went off with a hamstring strain after scoring the only goal of the first leg win over Arsenal. Dembele trained on Monday and by all reports, should be at the very least be included on the bench and is a chance to start.
Joao Neves was the only player to feature in both the first leg win and the weekend loss to Strasbourg, with Enrique set to recall all of his heavy hitters here.
Verdict
Arsenal need to go for it, which should result in chances at both ends. PSG are backed to prevail at home, with Ousmane Dembele returning from injury to continue his freak goal-scoring form.
